Not only is there a team now, but on Monday they became Northern Section Champions. "Our team is only four years-old and I couldn't be more proud of their achieve- ment in making Red Bluff High School sports history," Tomasetti said. Monday's section cham- pionship at Table Mountain Golf Course not only pro- vided a banner for the gym, but an individual title. Sofia Frantz shot a career- best round of 83, leading the Spartans to the team title and giving the senior, who wasn't even playing in the top group, medalist honors. Frantz's twin sister, Sum- mer Frantz shot an 89 to earn All-Section honors her- self. Those two seniors gave Red Bluff an early advan- tage at the par-72 course that played out on a mostly picturesque day with little wind and cool, but sunny skies. Their teammates made the lead stand as Red Bluff totaled a 509, nine better than Anderson at 518. Chico, which beat the Lady Spar- tans for the league title on Oct. 28 at Gold Hills Golf Course, finished third at 551. Red Bluff will advance to the Nor-Cal Championship at Salinas Golf & Country Club Nov. 10. No one could top So- fia Frantz on Monday. She ditched her driver for much of the round, relying on her 4-hybird and her short game. She started par-birdie-par, kick-starting her round far better than the field as most scores were much higher on the front nine. "I had some good putts and some good chips," said Frantz, who had the best front-nine score at 41 and the best back nine at 42. "It feels awesome." Frantz avoided major blowups and her consistent day's highlight came on the birdie as she reached the par-5 second hole's green in three and drained about a 10-foot putt. When Tomasetti first no- ticed the stipend, but lack of a team, she asked her ath- letic director why that was. She was told there wasn't enough interest to field a GOLF LADYSPARTANS WIN SECTION TITLE By Rich Greene rgreene@redbluffdailynews.com @richgreenenews on Twitter REDBLUFF» Candy Carlson pulled ahead of Sandy Bruce for the Tehama County Board of Supervi- sors 2nd District race in the latest vote totals re- leased by the Election's Department late Tues- day night. The City Council voted un an im ou sl y to d ir ec t ci ty staff to advertise and accept applications for Eliggi's seat — which isn't up for election until 2016 — through Nov. 24. From there, the City Council could appoint some- one to the seat on Dec. 2. It would be the second appointment for the unex- pired council seat. Robert Sheppard Jr. was elected to the seat in 2012, but later re- signed in June 2013, citing personal reasons. Eliggi was appointed to the seat in Au- gust 2013. The City Council met for the first time Tuesday since Eliggi's resignation went into effect Oct. 28. City Manager Richard Crabtree said he spoke with Eliggi before he was pre- sented with his resignation. "Unfortunately, he's in poor health," Crabtree said. "He expressed regret about having to make this deci- sion." The City Council has 60 days from a vacancy to ei- ther appoint someone to the position or call a special election. A special election, Crab- tree said, is estimated to cost about $10,000. Councilman Clay Parker begrudgingly voted in fa- vor of appointing someone to the seat.
