PAST NATIONAL PRESIDENT JIM MILLER'85 ENCOURAGES ALUMNI TO STAY CONNECTED s soon as Jim Miller '85 walked through the doors of Ohio Delta he felt at home and thought that the brotherhood was genuine. He truly enjoyed his undergraduate years in the Chapter and most remembers Greek Week with Alpha Phi during his senior year, a road trip to IU where he met his best man, Tracy Higginbotham '87, and Christmas formals with the Chapter House decorated. Serving as national president and keeping in touch with brothers have been important parts of Jim's life for several years, and he hopes that more Ohio Delta brothers will do the same. "I owe much of who I am as a person to the ideals of Phi Kappa Psi. Ohio Delta is my college home and I am forever tied to her." Jim became involved with the Phi Kappa Psi national office while attending the Woodrow Wilson Leadership School in Atlanta in 1999. National President Steve Nieslawski, Illinois Delta '79, asked if he would be willing to serve as a deputy attorney general; he served two terms then was appointed attorney general by Jim Blazer '79 when he was elected national president in 2004. Jim successfully ran for national secretary at the 2006 GAC and continued to move up until being elected national president in 2012. "Being national president affords one the pleasant opportunity to meet brothers around the country, but I am most proud that I was able to be the fifth national president from Ohio Delta to serve in that role. Ohio Delta's place in the National Fraternity has been shaped by the number of brothers who have served in national office—both as alumni and undergraduates. Giving Ohio Delta another national president was most gratifying. "There is a place in Phi Psi for everyone. You just need to find your role; whether that role is on the house corporation, chapter advisory team, alumni association, or as a national officer. Volunteering will energize you and take you back to those fond days when you were an undergraduate. You will receive much more than you put in." Jim lives in Avon, Ohio, with his wife, Autumn, and their three children: Austoria, Emily, and Genevieve. He works at the law firm Wickens, Herzer, Panza, Cook & Batista and counsels small, closely held business and financial institutions in financing, corporate, and real estate transactions. Jim is also on the board of directors for Boy Scouts of America. E-mail: jmiller@wickenslaw.com A "You can never pay back, so you should always try to pay forward," Coach Woody Hayes.
