She was a proud member of Theta Iota and remained active in the affairs of the sorority long after she graduated. Pauline was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on October 18, 1909. She attended Kansas State Agricultural College and graduated in 1931, magna cum laude, with majors in physical education and home economics. Following graduation, she began a teaching career in Goodland, Kansas, where she met her husband, William Higdon. Pauline and Bill raised their family of two children, Samuel and Polly, in Goodland. Pauline and Bill were very active in many civic affairs during these years. Both had a love for music, theater, and the arts and passed this love on to their children. Their marriage of 60 years was one of mutual respect, love, and support, and they were exemplary role models for their children. Both Sam and Polly later moved to Oregon and their parents eventually followed them, settling in Eugene. Sam is a dentist in Portland, Oregon, and Polly, who died in 2007, was an attorney and bankruptcy judge in Portland. Pauline was a member of P.E.O. service organization and regularly attended their meetings and affairs after moving to Eugene. She continued playing bridge on a regular basis until she passed. While living in Goodland, she and Bill were members of the Episcopal Church. After moving to Eugene, they became active members of Resurrection Episcopal Church. Following Bill's death in 2000, Pauline continued attending church every Sunday until her death at age 104. She is survived by her son, Sam, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and respected by all of her family, as well as all who knew her. Successful Recruitment Kicks Off Fall Semester Undergraduates Emphasize Academic Achievements T This semester will be filled with goals and great changes for Theta Iota. We arrived in August, eager to start the year with a successful recruitment. During recruitment, 59 wonderful women selected Delta Delta Delta. They are in the process of their new member meetings and are eager to learn more and become members in October. This is a large new member class, but we will hopefully add 10 more wonderful women to our 100th class through continuous open bidding (COB)! Our house total was raised right after recruitment to 192, so we are eager to begin the COB process. We see this as a great opportunity to grow our Tri Delta family and better our chapter. Our goals for 2014-15 are to continue being involved in the Greek community and reach our GPA goal of 3.3. Our Academics Chairman Sammie Prester '12 is implementing fun incentives for women who receive good grades on tests or projects. We also hope to keep morale high and have a seamless officer transition in the winter. Many underclassmen are excited and interested in applying, so the future looks bright for Theta Iota. Like always, we have a semester full of events with other fraternities and sororities. We will also host Dad's Weekend, Sibling's Weekend, Homecoming, initiation, and many other events. Our game day for St. Jude will be at the new Bluemont Hotel. Hopefully this will draw a larger crowd to cheer on their 'Cats and support St. Jude! This semester is going to be a great one, and we look forward to enjoying every moment and event together.
