Our undergraduates understand the BMP is defined not only by sound mind, and sound body, but also equal rights and responsibilities. To that end, Vice President of Membership Development Alan Kidwell '16 has been working hard to ensure his Sigma, Phi, and Epsilon challenges are all equally functioning. In addition, for the first time in recent history, there are at least 10 undergraduates in the brother mentor challenge and quite a sizable group is ready for the brother mentor rite of passage. This is impressive! Recently Regional Director Josh Santos, MIT '14, met with Alan to review the proficiency of our BMP. They discussed ways to keep the upperclassmen motivated and came up with a few minor adjustments to keep the BMP true to its tenets. Our challenge coordinators for all four challenges consist of three juniors and three seniors. The Sigma challenge meetings are semi- weekly, Phi and Epsilon challenge meetings are bi-weekly, and the brother mentors meet as needed to complete their challenge and see that their promise of service to the chapter is met. We have roughly 45 new Sigmas who proceeded through the rite of passage in September and are very excited to jump into the lifetime responsibility of brotherhood. We are just as excited to have them with us as they are quite an impressive group of young men. Fraternities of yesteryear had an emphasis on the pledging process, which only lasted a month or two. The beauty of the BMP is in its ability to keep these men personally developing throughout their entire time as a SigEp. In recent years, nearly every fraternity across the country has copied our program, finally discovering the necessity to keep their undergraduates involved in the chapter and growing and developing as young men. Fraternally, Troy D. Cal Delta Recruits New Members and Awards Balanced Man Scholarships O ne of the proudest events Sigma Phi Epsilon has developed in its long history is the Balanced Man Scholarship, a tradition begun by this fraternity and promoted with great pride. Cal Delta's dinner was held Wednesday, September 17, planned and executed by Vice President of Recruitment Brandon Pierce '16. He chose to utilize the house facilities, contracted for food and all of the essentials, to put on this special event. Chapter President Patric Kreidler '16 introduced SigEp and Cal Delta to nearly 70 attendees, most of whom were potential new members. We had a wonderful assortment of recruits, young and old, and soon-to-be alumni in attendance. Following Patric was Ron Smith '69, AVC president, who discussed a very specific outline of what SigEp and Cal Delta are about and what the members are expected to accomplish. The man of the hour was Jeremy Poincenot '13, who shared what the brotherhood has meant to him. This year, the scholarship awards totaled $1,700. The winners of the Balanced Man Scholarship awards are William McCutchan '17, Connor Grant '17, Lowell McKay '18, and Forrest Edson '18. Leading up to and completed two days after the Balanced Man scholarship banquet was the official campus Greek recruitment at San Diego State University. From Sunday the 8th Continue reading on page 2!
