STRONGER THAN EVER The Beta Nu Chapter is excited to kick off the fall semester. The move-in process went smoothly as we navigated the construction zone. We transitioned back into the house ready for an incredible year ahead and are especially enjoying the great new renovations. We are so fortunate to not only live in the newly renovated part of the house but also experience the transformation of the addition. We can't wait to be the first to live in the new wing! The Kappas started this year off with a fun sisterhood by participating in the Dime-a-Dog Night at Clippers Stadium, as well as participating in the Involvement Fair with 700 other OSU organizations. One can definitely feel the Kappa presence throughout the campus. We are excited for January recruitment and ready to share all of the greatness our sisters have to offer. COMMITTED TO OUR FUTURE The Beta Nu Chapter is proud and excited to usher in a new era of growth and commitment to excellence at OSU. We are excited to assist in making this campaign a success. We are fully committed to this endeavor and would like to show our gratitude and support with a pledge of $130,000 toward the expansion and renovation of our Beta Nu home. Together we are preparing a wonderful home for future generations of Beta Nu sisters. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Our chapter continues to escalate in academic excellence. Emily Moss, Vice President Academic Excellence, proudly announced we ranked as the 4th highest sorority in grades out of 17 Panhellenic sororities for the second semester in a row. We are Undergraduates Continue to Excel on Campus Sisters Commit $130,000 to New Chapter House W ith more than 30 years separating them, it was the same single room at Beta Nu that housed both mother and daughter, Sally Reardon Heid '51 and Brigid Heid '84. For Sally, it was a perfect housing option as she completed law school at The Ohio State University. "I owe the Kappas a lot," said Sally. "All through law school they let me stay in the single room even though I was in graduate school, which was marvelous. We had Mrs. Perkins as our house mother, the food was good, and the law school was right up the street." When Brigid attended Ohio State, the idea of creating a more intimate college experience on a large campus was an appealing idea. "I had a wonderfully warm experience during the recruitment process with Kappa at the top of my list. I loved everybody I met, and once I pledged, I moved into the house. It was the best thing I could've ever done." During her time in the house, Brigid lived in the same room her mother did and pursued her own studies in chemistry followed by law school. "Kappa gave me the chance to develop the emotional intelligence that perhaps I wouldn't have been aware of if I had just focused on book learning. It was invaluable for me." Brigid went on to explore patent law, clerking with a boutique patent firm in Columbus. In the process she found a love for litigation and ultimately focused her practice in employment law and business litigation. She is now a partner with a 40-attorney firm in Columbus. When the need arose to update the Beta Nu house, Brigid was quickly on board with the plan, particularly the opportunity to dedicate the single room in her mother's honor. "Naming the single in honor of my mother was the least I could do for everything my mom and dad have done for me." "This campaign will allow Kappa to maintain its position as a leader on campus, setting the bar for the Greek experience. While I loved the Kappa women when I pledged, the location of the house, the quality of the house, the food, and the amenities were all important when I made my decision. I really appreciated the house throughout my college experience, and I hope that my sisters and I can pay it forward so that the experience we enjoyed 30 years ago is still available to new students coming through Ohio State." Brigid and her husband, Kurt Swartzlander, make their home in Arlington, Ohio, just a few hours away from Sally and her husband, Robert, in Fremont, Ohio. Brigid can be reached at bheid@cpmlaw.com.
