Peñalikelydied of alcohol abuse "Modern Family" actress Elizabeth Peña probably died from alcohol abuse. The 55-year-old suf- fered from cirrhosis to the liver, according to TMZ, citing the death certificate, which also reportedly says Peña suffered from acute gastrointestinal bleed- ing during the hours before her death last week at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. On the ABC sitcom, Peña played Sofia Vergara's mother, Pilar.
