Box 220 Red Bluff, CA 96080 Bluff 38 years. Yes, we sub- scribed for all those years, and raised a family there. Your cov- erage photo of the All-Star boys, was very lacking and incom- plete. Why didn't you give the photos names — full, first and last — and give the details, with names in the action photos. We do not have any relatives or close friends on this team, but those kids who are shown deserve credit — first and last names under there photos. These are going to be long- time memories and accomplish- ments that they will show and mail to friends and relatives out of the area. The article is going to validate what this event at this point in there lives. Your paper had no problem listing names of the restaurant, three times, its manager, those in the corner booths and those viewing the TV; as well as those girls who went to past All-Star games. But no full names identifying the actual players and coaches or their hours of individual fame and sig- nificance for all of Red Bluff. The Daily News heading on the top of the article is blatant and self-serving — it is also space that could have been given to the boys names and photo caps. Please give these boys another page that is more repre- sentative of their accomplish- ment, by properly naming each boy so he can be identified and can use this recognition appro- priately. You must remember that your paper is probably the only local- ly published and printed recogni- tion these boys will have of this event. Dave Renfree, Cottonwood Little League Editor: Ocean View Little League, West regional representative to the World Series in Pennsylvania is doing very well. Our community will always remember Ocean View won the West regional by only one run against Red Bluff. The Ocean View team is compiled from travel teams that play ball all year. They are extensively coached for several years and discouraged not to compete in any other sports. The coaches allow their play- ers to be arrogant and display poor sportsmanship. Red Bluff represents what a true All Star Little League team should be; the love and talent for baseball, blended in with family, school and other interests. In hearts and minds our Red Bluff team will always be winners. Katie Olhiser, Cottonwood Inefficiency Editor: My auto registration was due in July. Because Gov. Brown was hoping to extend the tax that was added to our auto registration fee a couple of years ago, he ordered the DMV to delay sending out the notices of those that were due in July, hoping that the Legisla- ture would extend that additional tax. However, they refused to extend it and those of us whose registrations were due for July and were usually sent a couple of months in advance were not mailed until the middle of July. Mine stated that I should pay it by the 8th of August without penalty. I did so, and last week I received my new registration and promptly affixed it to my rear license plate. Today I was quite sur- prised to receive a "notice of delinquency renewal" with a penalty of $105. Your Turn I immediately called the DMV and was told I would be able to talk to someone by hold- ing the line for one hour and 41 minutes. Being retired, I do have spare time, but thought of other fun things I would rather do. I left my phone number and they did call me back and I was told to ignore the new notice. Instead of shredding it, I decided to frame and hang it in my garage to remind me of the effi- ciency we taxpayers are paying for. Kay Haley, Red Bluff Cartoon Editor: My eye was certainly caught by Monte Wofverton's cartoon depicting Rick Perry clutching the U.S. Capitol building, to which he has affixed a church spire topped by a cross. The title words "Church & State" top the comment, "Rick Perry Ponders Plan For A Newer, Holier U. S. Capitol Building." It seemed to me that Rick Perry had just entered the campaign and the bashing was begun. I was reminded of the dire predictions that immediately sur- faced when John F. Kennedy entered the race for the presiden- cy. "The Pope will be running America" was a frequent scare tactic. Ridicule and fear are great weapons used against those you would like to destroy. I say that it would be refreshing and important to hear all candidates, even those with unpopular views, and have them cov- ered by the media without bias. Last time around, Ron Paul had some things to say that were not the popular voice. The media seemed to have decided to ignore him, and it was rare to hear any coverage of his cam- paign. The first president of the United States, that great man, George Washington, trusted and honored God and coveted prayer during those difficult years. Abraham Lincoln called the peo- ple to prayer in those difficult years. We are in difficult years, and I would surely feel more confident if I could be assured that my representatives prayed daily for guidance. Mr. Wolfverton, many prayers have been offered up to God in that Capitol building, and it is still the people's house. If I may borrow your words, I would have great joy if we had a "Newer, Holier Capitol Building" when our next President is elected, whoever that may be. 'Illegal'near extinction in Obama administration Commentary This morning, I double-checked to be sure the word "illegal" was still a word in the dictionary. As of this morning, it still means "crimi- nal, felonious, illegitimate, illicit, lawless, unlawful, and wrongful." However, it is quite obvious, that the longer Progressive Democrats have carte' blanche to do what they want, the closer the word "illegal" gets to becoming extinct. It is difficult to determine who it is this administration is particularly interested in protecting. Law-abid- ing, hardworking folks who mind their business and turn their atten- tion to providing for their families, seem to fall by the wayside, while the administration focuses on ful- filling President Obama's commit- ment to "fundamentally transform" America. As our president jets off to Martha's Vineyard on yet another posh family get-away, it's reassur- ing to know that in his absence, someone in Washington is watch- ing out for us, or at least they say they are. God bless them, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is working their fingers to the bone to keep us safe - and at the same time, they find a way to justi- fy that ignoring the rule of law regarding the deportation of illegal aliens is for our good, rather than an opportunity to shore up the Lati- no vote. To give them credit, the Obama administration was on quite an impressive roll, having deported some 800,000 illegals from 2009 to 2010. Skeptics such as I believed the only reason the administration was following the rule of law regarding illegal immigration was to secure bi-partisan support for the DREAM (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) Act. The act failed in the Democ- ratic-controlled Senate in Decem- ber 2010, in good part, because the bill was perceived nationwide as amnesty for lawbreakers. Afterwards, it seemed the Administration appeared to contin- ue down the straight and narrow, until, like children who play one parent against another when they don't get their way, leading Senate Democrats begged Obama to adopt the Dream Act as national policy, despite the bill's failure in Congress. Speaking to a think tank event as late as April 2011, DHS Secretary Napolitano reinforced the administration's stance when she said, "I am not going to stand here and say that there are whole categories that we will, by execu- tive fiat, exempt from the current immigration system — as sympa- thetic as we feel towards them." Either the administration was lying, or as I have mentioned in previous columns, they are living in "Bizarro World," where every- thing is the opposite of normal. Whatever the case, the deportation bus came to a screech- ing halt August 18, 2011, when the admin- istration announced that the DHS will now re- consider the fate of approximately 300,000 illegals currently facing pending deportation — just as long as they do not have a "criminal record." Let me get this straight. Those who crossed our borders in a criminal, felonious, ille- gitimate, illicit, lawless, unlawful, and wrongful way - can stay in our country because they do not have a crimi- nal record? Bizarro. welcome with open arms those who cross our borders — legally. Rather than doing the right thing by considering the moral aspects of illegal immigration and its effect on American citi- zens, it seems Democ- rats are only concerned with enlarging their vot- ing base. Applauding the administration's immigration flip-flop, Representative Luis Susan Brown Dry wells can teach us the worth of water, and in an election cycle when the Obama administra- tion is scraping the bottom of the well for votes, exploiting the Lati- no electorate makes as much sense in the world of Chicago politics as it does in Bizarro World. Suddenly, and quite conveniently, lawbreak- ers were morphed into impover- ished victims in need of a Democ- rat Party savior. America will continue to be the "melting pot of the world," as we Gutierrez, D-ILL recently said, "This is the Barack Obama I have been waiting for and that Latino and immigrant voters helped put in office." Once again, the administration is doing what it does best by bury- ing its true intentions under moun- tains of words, and burying words like "illegal" under mountains of loopholes found in the Democratic process.
