Alumna Serves as National Volunteer for Sigma Kappa, Panhellenic H er love for Greek life is undeniable. It was clear as an undergraduate she served in leadership positions for Xi and Panhellenic, and it remains true as a national volunteer for both organizations. Kathleen Brangan Held '92 has made Sigma Kappa a lifelong commitment. After graduating from KU, she was a leadership consultant and now serves Sigma Kappa as the release figure methodology coordinator. She also serves the National Panhellenic Conference as an RFM specialist and member of the Measurable Outcomes Committee. Through these experiences, she is thankful for the professional skills she developed as an undergraduate. "Thanks to Sigma Kappa, I was able to leave college with a resume full of experiences that translated to the professional world. Never underestimate your collegiate leadership experiences because they are relevant in the workplace," Kathleen said. Her time as a national volunteer also made her realize the value of being an active alumna. "I've seen the benefit strong alumnae support can provide a collegiate chapter and the national organization. Even if you're at a place in your life where you feel like you don't have time to volunteer, you can still make a difference by making a donation of any amount to the Xi House Fund at the Sigma Kappa Foundation," Kathleen said. "If we all do a little, it will add up to a lot." She encourages all alumnae to answer this call. "Don't assume someone else will step in to serve the sorority. Sigma Kappa needs all of us," Kathleen said. In addition to the professional benefits, Xi provided her strongest friendships. She fondly remembers many social events such as the Christmas Crush date party and Mock Wedding with Sigma Alpha Epsilon; but above all, she cherishes her time with sisters at the chapter house. "My best friends are my pledge class sisters, Christy Cain Nielson '92, Gretchen Havner '92, Christy Scherlacker Skelton '92, and Marcy Smoler Woodhouse '92," Kathleen said. "In addition to our annual girls' weekend, we've vacationed together, hosted each other's wedding and baby showers, served as bridesmaids, and supported each other for the past 23 years." Kathleen is an account manager for ViiV Healthcare, an HIV pharmaceutical company. She resides in Chicago with her husband, Steve, and their rescue dog, Maggie. When she's not rooting for the Jayhawks, Bears, or Cubs, Kathleen enjoys cooking, reading, and golfing. E-mail: katheld@outlook.com
