Members of Sun Coun- try Quilters Community Service Group recently de- livered 85 quilts to Head Start at Happy Trails and other locations through- out Tehama County. This is the 15th year that this group has made nap- ping quilts for the Tehama County Head Start pro- gram. Each Monday morn- ing a group of dedicated women meet at the Family Resource Center at Mercy Housing to work on the these quilts. This year the group has donated more than 200 lap quilts to sev- eral organizations in the county. To donate your time or for further information, call Georgina at 528-1126. COURTESY PHOTO When I ex- panded my busi- ness from a face- to-face busi- ness model to an on-line model, I opened myself up to a whole new world. In order to promote what I do, I started to travel and meet people from all over America and many of those connections grew into friendships that have grown very strong. Thankfully, with mod- ern technology, it is very easy to use Skype, Face Time, Google Hang Outs and other means to stay connected. Geography rarely impedes my abil- ity to grow and manage friendships. As I have developed these friendships, I have had the fortune to travel to be with and hang out with people everywhere. Each time I do, I get a different perspective on life. Seeing life in differ- ent states with differ- ent ways of being creates a great contrast for the day-to-day here at home. Seeing how others live, recreate, engage with one another and do life is fas- cinating to me. Last week, I was in Minneapolis to help one of my friends execute the wedding of her dreams. It was the sort of thing you might see in a movie. Quintessential fall foli- age, family and friends who surrounded and sup- ported the loving couple. The celebration started on Wednesday and didn't end until Sunday night. Simply magical. Gaining different per- spectives on life, based on the friendships I have cultivated has made my life so much more ful- filling than it ever was. Engaging with people who have never set foot in California, who live all over America, makes things spicier and excit- ing. It shows me ways that I have been indoctri- nated in a sort of Kool- Aid drinking. It shows me ways that I have been narrow minded or miss- ing the boat on life's geographic smorgasbord. When was the last time you got a new perspec- tive on your life? When was the last time you left home to see how oth- ers live? When we live in the same town, do- ing the same things with the same people, many things can hap- pen. I know for me, I of- ten times felt like I didn't fully connect. That I was somehow a fish out of wa- ter. I never feel like that now. Change can be a radi- cal experience and offers opportunities to be live more, love yourself more and expand your circle. I encourage you to get a new perspective and measure if you are living your life to the fullest of it's potential.
