Sigma's involvement in philanthropy through Rock Chalk Revue and United Way, along with their affiliation with camping and outdoor activities, seemed worthwhile causes for Terrie. Getting involved with those initiatives allowed Terrie to gain skills she still uses today. "The skills you attain from serving others will be those you can use your entire life, whether at a job or in your volunteer positions. Gamma Phi Beta provided me an opportunity to hone leadership skills. I could use my background in marketing communications to publicize the need for volunteers and dollars for various organizations, and it all started with Gamma Phi." Terrie earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with an emphasis in speech communications and human relations. She served for 10 years in the Kansas House and Senate, where she had the experience of a lifetime working with policy and politics. Since retiring in 2013, she has acquired her real estate license. Gamma Phi Beta remains an important part of Terrie's life as she has served in many areas for the alumnae chapter of the greater Kansas City area, including alumnae chapter president for two years, and at the international level as a province alumnae director and regional alumnae director. These roles again show how Terrie's Gamma Phi-taught leadership skills have helped in all aspects of life. Terrie is also involved with planning the upcoming Sigma Chapter centennial celebration. "I'm happy to have my health and be able to attend. It's such a special sorority. I look forward to visiting with and catching up on news from women who live in the house. I know this reunion will be just as special as the 85th." Terrie and her husband, Jim, a Delta Tau Delta who was a dishwasher and waiter in the Sigma chapter house, live in Fairway, Kansas. They have two children in Denver and San Francisco, two grandchildren, and a black Labrador. Contact Terrie via e-mail at terriehuntington@gmail.com.
