THE RHO RHO CHAPTER'S CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION Friday, November 13, through Sunday, November 15, 2015 Contact Katy Herbold '00 at katyherbold@gmail.com with questions. 2 W hile going through recruitment, it's not always easy to see which chapter you will fit in with or the women you can see yourself being friends with. The thought of joining an organization where your membership lasts for a lifetime is a bit overwhelming to most college women. Somehow, you find a chapter where it feels like home, and women you met just the day before suddenly feel like sisters. Looking back on the short time you had as an undergraduate you clearly remember the moment you read your bid card from Gamma Phi Beta and you knew where you would fit into the organization. First you were a part of it, and then it became a part of you. Tucky Wheeler Hobbs '60 only needed to meet one Gamma Phi before she knew Rho Chapter was the place for her. Her undergraduate experience gave her four years of bonding with sisters creating friendships that have lasted over 50. Tucky cherishes the fun memories made at the Rho chapter house, including when she played Alvin the chipmunk in a recruitment skit, dancing on stage for Sherrie Larsen '56 for Miss SUI, having her picture taken with a flock of turkeys for the Thanksgiving issue, "Tucky Meets Turkeys," and passing around the candle for her engagement to her late husband, Dennis, in 1962. As Tucky recognizes all that Rho Chapter gave to her, she has remembered to give back to Gamma Phi Beta year after year. "We all received when we were collegians, so we all should want to give back for future Gamma Phis! Monetary donations are necessary for upkeep and running of sorority properties and for helping train our leaders. Never pass up an opportunity to get involved as an alumna. I have helped with a couple of new chapters and the Foundation, and it was so rewarding." Even in the middle of her move from Kansas City to Pinehurst, North Carolina, Tucky found time to visit Sigma Chapter's (University of Kansas) mock recruitment. As you reflect on what Rho Chapter provided you—memories, friendships, and leadership opportunities, do you remember that moment you knew Rho Chapter was going to be a part of you for the rest of your life? Strive to be like Tucky and find ways to give back, big or small. Every dollar donated and minute volunteered adds up to make a big impact for the livelihood of Rho Chapter. PAYING IT FORWARD Why Tucky Wheeler Hobbs '60 Gives Back to Gamma Phi Thank You, Generous Alumnae L ast spring, 46 alumnae and friends showed their enthusiastic support for the chapter by contributing $6,370. The accomplishments and success enjoyed by the Rho Chapter are directly contributed to the loyal support from the chapter's alumnae. Donors are listed by lifetime giving. If an error has been made in recording the amount of your gift, we sincerely apologize. If corrections to your giving record are needed, please send them to astoops@penningtonco.com.
