Box 220 Red Bluff, CA 96080 Life coaches are not thera- pists nor consultants; psycho- logical intervention and busi- ness analysis are outside the scope of their work. Life coach- ing draws inspiration from dis- ciplines including sociology, psychology, positive adult development, career counseling, mentoring and other types of counseling. Contemporary life coaching can be traced to teach- ings of Benjamin Karter, a col- lege football coach turned moti- vational speaker of late 1970s and early 1980s. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not see where a Life Coach should publish arti- cles in the newspaper pointing out the faults of others. From what I found about a life coach, they should be inspiring and motivational, not mean-spirited people that get satisfaction of attacking people through public writing. I am completely confused by the article that was titled, Chris- tine Wise You Matter. Was this article supposed to be an uplift- ing article or was it just a chance to take a dig at her friends? From the sounds of it, Christie has made very bad choices with the company she keeps. So I find this article very odd with all the praises she received from the life coach. Was this article just a motiva- tional booster for Christie to drop her friends and find new ones? Or is it really about what a great person she is? I know many people who are friends with Christie and they are all great people, so it leaves me baffled as to what the life coach is trying to say. I have noticed more than once in these articles how the life coach talks negatively about people we all know in this town. Does anyone at the Daily News read these articles before they are published for everyone to see? It only took a few words to completely change the feel of the article. I sure hope the many friends Christie has are not hurt by the negative words that were written about them. Kaysha Palmer, Red Bluff Sheriff has the authority Editor: To all those who believe our Sheriff Dave Hencratt’s hands are tied, you are totally mistaken. He took an oath to serve and protect. I witnessed his taking the oath, and his hands were not tied. I, Don Bird, am demanding he do his job. If he refuses to do his duty, I will file a Writ of Man- damus in Superior Court to begin the long, expensive trek to the California Supreme Court. Can the citizens of Tehama County afford the cost? No, but at this point, I don’t care what it costs. I will make my final deci- sion after reviewing the Findings and Recommendations of our Tehama County Grand Jury on June 30. Our sheriff still has time to avoid the legal action. All he has to do is submit whatever inves- tigative information he has or can obtain to our District Attorney Gregg Cohen. When our sheriff openly recommends to indict, with probable cause, he has ful- filled his duty. I would hope that our sheriff would, at that time, ask for a brief press conference to make a state- ment to our Daily News. Some of you maintain our Daily News will not report this. It is all specula- tion. The least we can do is try. Those who are in denial, that our sheriff has the authority to deliver his investigation to our DA Gregg Cohen, are welcome to contact me and I will be thrilled to explain the law to you. If our sheriff is following orders from our District Attorney, he has become our newly elected ultimate coward of Tehama County. Don Bird, Rancho Tehama Anti-war Editor: Drive by Oak and Main any Saturday morning and you’re likely to see me and a few of my friends holding anti-war signs. Some had to quit because of ill health. But we will continue the vigil because our cause is worth continuing. No one has ever shown us even the slightest justification for this war. It has destroyed the lives of too many of our best citizens, and it has contributed consider- ably to our financial down fall. The blame for this fiasco falls squarely on Bush and Obama. Bush for starting it and Obama for not ending it. The troops always suffer the most and gain the least from wars. War Hawks will try and tell you our troops are defending our freedoms. That sounds real patri- otic but I can not see how oppressing others protects my freedoms. And just how safer is this world since our 2003 inva- sion? We live in a more, not less dangerous world today. Each innocent war casualty recruits many anti-American militants. And we have the audacity to call our devastation of Iraq, “Opera- tion Iraq freedom”. The worst thing about all of this is that it could have easily been prevented. Instead of jump- ing into war we could have actu- ally done some real investigating, gathered incriminating evidence and given it to whichever country we suspected the alleged perpe- trator to be in. Kind of like we did back in ‘93. After presenting our case to Pakistan they turned Ramzi Yousef over to us without having to send troops, kill civil- ians or drive thousands from their homes. Your Turn The Taliban actually offered to turn bin Laden over to an independent tri- bunal to stand trial upon the receipt of evi- dence from the United States that showed he had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks. There is no doubt about bin Laden was a dangerous terrorist; however did he have anything to do with 9/11? When asked about it Rex Tomb, the FBI's chief of investigative publicity, is reported to have said "The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Osama Bin Laden's Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evi- dence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11." So there was no hard evidence connecting Osama bin Laden to the Sept. 11 attacks. And no proof was ever brought forward that solidified Saddam Hussein’s involvement in it. Not finding any connections was bad enough but Bush, through the CIA, tried to discredit a University of Michi- gan professor by the name of Juan Cole for putting out an Inter- net blog questioning the pretenses used to justify our war with Iraq. Cole just happens to be a Middle East historian. But who needs facts when you got awe- some fire power and more than a million soldiers who must fol- low your every command no matter how idiotic they are? Obama and Democrats are in denial Commentary It has been said bad news does not get better over time. I once knew a lady who discov- ered a lump in her breast, but ignored it until it had metastasized. She finally sought medical help when she reached the point that she could no longer ignore the pain. Initially, denial gave her a brief sense of security, but all the while, the cancer was spreading. I could not help but notice an odd similarity this week while lis- tening to Rep. Debbie Wasserman- Schultz, D-FL, tell MSNBC that Obama and the Democrats have "really begun to turn the economy around." With the exception of inside the Beltway, Americans are hurting. Cities and towns across this great country bear the scars of recession in one form or another, from abandoned homes to emptied offices and pot-holed roads. Last week's stock market nose dive coupled with anemic unem- ployment numbers were sympto- matic of a sick economy screaming for a huge dose of old-fashioned American Capitalism. Obviously in denial (or worse), the Obama administration did everything in its power to convince Americans that "there is nothing to see here, just move along." It's like watching my friend exhibit all the symptoms of cancer and all she wants to talk about is how good she feels. And now with Standard and Poor's downgrade of the country's AAA credit rating, for the first time in United States history, it will be intriguing to see how the adminis- tration tries to spin this latest reve- lation. While most Americans are not economists, we are smart enough to see the economy is in dire straits. The administration seems to think throwing a bunch of numbers around as a shell game is enough to quiet the masses. Listening to White House rhetoric last week, one might be tempted to think that the creation of 117,000 jobs and the slight unemployment rate drop to 9.1 percent is a sign of an economy on the mend. Not so much. And as Paul Harvey used to say, "Now, for the rest of the story:" While the creation of 117,000 jobs is better than no jobs at all, our economy must create at least 125,000 jobs per month just to keep up with the pace of popula- tion growth. Even still, we are not coming close to chipping away at the jobs deficit in this coun- try. search. The administration contin- ues to deny the problem. Susan Brown Likewise, the administration championed its economic policies on news unemployment dropped from 9.2 percent to 9.1 percent, but failed to disclose that a large por- tion of that percentage was due to workers who gave up on the job Thanks to Sigmund Freud, we know denial takes on many forms, one of which being the denial of facts, which can lead to outright lying if someone believes the truth is too painful to face. If the Obama administration and its sidekicks contin- ue to deny the severity of the condition of our economy, we will wake up one day to find it's too late.
