SERRF THE THREE RS Two north state schol- ars have been named win- ners of the Louie Elwood Memorial Scholarship for the 2014-2015 school year — Chelsey Bushnell of Red Bluff and Emily Clendenen of Cottonwood. Chelsey is the daughter of Wade and Donna Bush- nell. Emily is the daughter of Woody and Kelly Clen- denen. Bushnell had been ac- cepted to Feather River Community College. She graduated from Red Bluff High School as an honor student. She was All Around Cowgirl for California High School Rodeo District One all four years of high school and competed on Califor- nia's national team. Bush- nell was awarded the $500 scholarship. At the time of her schol- arship application. Clen- denen had been accepted at three four-year universi- ties. She was on the honor roll her entire high school career. She served as vice president for District #1 of the California High School Rodeo Association and was active in FFA and her high school softball team. Clen- denen was the runner-up winner and was awarded a $250 scholarship. Friends and family es- tablished the Louie Elwood Memorial Scholarship in 1982 after Louie's death in an auto accident. The Elwood fam- ily wishes to thank Mike Brewer, Tracy and Alien Gill, Cody Jones and all the ropers and their families who faithfully honor Lou- ie's memory each year at the Louie Elwood Memo- rial Roping. The Louie Elwood schol- arship is open to high school seniors who belong to District #1 of the Califor- nia High School Rodeo As- sociation and compete in a roping event. LOUIE ELWOOD MEMORIAL Bushnell, Clendenen earn scholarship REDDING The fifteenth an- nual College Quest, a col- lege information night, will take place 5-8 p.m. Mon- day, Sept. 22, at the Shasta College Gym. This free community event is open to everyone, but specifically designed for north state high school students and their families to explore higher education opportunities. College Quest will fea- ture booths from more than 50 colleges and uni- versities. Recruiters will be on hand to showcase their academic programs and provide students with ad- mission information. At- tendees can learn about degree options, costs of attending, and accredita- tion. There will also be free workshops at 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. presented by Col- lege Options staff covering financial aid information. College Quest is part of a tour network, coordinated by statewide organizations. The Redding event is planned and sponsored by representatives from College Options, Scholar- Share California's 529 Col- lege Savings Plan, Shasta College, Shasta Union High School District, Simpson University, National Uni- versity, and the Shasta County Office of Education.
