BETA TIDINGS A PUBLICATION OF BETA SIGMA PSI AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY FALL 2014 SPRING RECRUITMENT DAY HUGE SUCCESS Alumni, We Want to See You This Fall! M any great things are happening around Beta Chapter. Most importantly, University Lutheran Church hired Pastor Justin Herman to serve as our new spiritual advisor. The Chapter is truly looking forward to all the changes in the coming months. FOCUSING ON THE SECOND "S" Our scholarship chairmen, Jacob Hahn '13 and Nathaniel Smock '12, worked hard to implement study hours for both the active members and associate members of our Chapter. We showed great improvement in our grades and overall GPA. Multiple members made the dean's list, along with semester honors, and our Chapter GPA was above the IFC average. We look to continue our academic success for semesters to come. INVOLVEMENT ON CAMPUS GROWING We have seen many of our members not only dedicating their time to the Chapter but also to clubs and organizations on campus. Josh Scott '13 and I serve on the church council; having members participating in this matter has drastically improved our retention rate at the local church. We also have members participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters. These members attend after-school programs with children where they provide mentoring and homework assistance. CHAPTER HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS The Chapter House underwent several improvements this summer. During the semester, our new property managers, Trish and Mark Brown, worked hard to give the kitchen and dining room a more modern design. They thoroughly cleaned and added much-needed appliances, rewired the basement to fix all electrical problems, and painted and remodeled the living room. We look forward to enjoying our first semester in the updated house and invite all alumni to visit and view the renovations. SPRING RECRUITMENT DAY Last spring we implemented a scholarship day where we brought in high school seniors who will be attending Purdue this fall. We were able to interview the attendees, show them around the Chapter House, and let them know what our Chapter is about. Scholarship Day helped us recruit four freshmen who will be living-in this semester. We look forward to having these gentlemen in our Chapter, and know they will be great assets to our growing Fraternity. As a new school year begins we hope to continue improving our high academic standards as well as our involvement in the Purdue community. We all need to remember that every year brings on new challenges, but if we work together as a Chapter of Lutheran brothers we will be able to overcome any obstacle that comes our way. I truly believe in this group of men and know that we will be able to achieve great things on campus as well as in our Fraternity. Fraternally, Nathan L.
