B rothers Ryan '17 and Kevin '12 Clegg have many similar interests, so it is no surprise that both ended up at Texas Alpha. The eldest, Kevin, has paved the path for Ryan, and both are leaving their mark at SigEp. Kevin and Ryan have had similar experiences at Texas Alpha so far. Kevin graduated with a dual degree in mechanical engineering and plan II honors, and Ryan is currently pursuing that same dual degree. They both enjoyed taking part in the builds (the preparation leading up to each Texas Alpha party that involved constructing stages and decorating the house), which for Kevin was a great way to get to know people outside of his pledge class and create a sense of pride when he attended the event. Ryan just began his term as build coordinator for Texas Alpha after enjoying his time helping with the builds for the Safari party his freshman year. Participating in builds has even influenced his thoughts about a future career path. Texas Alpha also impacted Kevin's career. "My leadership experience in the chapter was definitely helpful during the job recruiting process. The amount of responsibility I was given while serving as president really stood out in the interview room and helped me succeed in my jobs." Kevin works as a facilities engineer for Chevron within their deepwater exploration and projects business unit where he is working on completing the Big Foot Platform which will sail away later this year to produce oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico. Since Ryan is still an undergraduate member, Kevin stays especially involved with the chapter and has recently joined the AVC board. He has seen Ryan have a great experience at Texas Alpha, just like he did. Ryan feels his membership is "both a privilege and a responsibility and I hope to live up to that responsibility by giving back to Texas Alpha more than it has already given me in my short time at UT." Both brothers have joined or plan to join the Skull & Crossbones Society as they feel it is their duty to give back and recreate their positive experiences for future Texas Alpha members. Kevin and Ryan enjoy being both fraternity and biological brothers. "Kevin paved a path for me and his name still lives on as a particularly respected and admired member of the chapter," said Ryan. "I hope to be able to fill his shoes, and, with any luck, even surpass his legacy. I can see how lasting an effect a legacy can have and I hope that mine will be as positive and influential as his has been." Kevin recently became engaged to his girlfriend, Katherine Verity, sister of Thomas Verity '09, and enjoys spending time outdoors and watching Texas football with his family. Ryan enjoys music and is an avid sports fan. Contact Kevin at kclegg7@gmail.com and Ryan at rclegg@utexas.edu. Clegg Brothers Leave Their Mark on Texas Alpha
