That's a relief for all of us. Recruitment effectively concluded with a new pledge class of 53 young men. The class is comprised mostly of Texas freshmen, but we have a handful from out of state, including California, Missouri, and Washington, D.C. Of the 53, eight are legacies. And, yes, that means more DeAyalas in the house! These young men come from strong academic backgrounds, are socially skilled, and, shockingly, slightly confident. However, they are nowhere near as good looking as we used to be. From the looks of it, though, the traditions will continue with this class of 2014. We recently received great news regarding the chapter's academic performance last spring. Keep in mind we are one of the largest fratertnities at UT with 180 men on our roster. Our chapter G.P.A. came in at 3.2205. That's higher than the all-IFC, the all-undergraduate men, and all-undergraduate G.P.As. While our men enjoy themselves during the semesters, they are also hard at work getting their education. For that, they should be congratulated. With football season almost here, there are plenty of opportunities to reconnect with Texas Alpha. The house will be open for game day festivities, with all of the details posted to the newly improved website at www.texassigep.org. We will have our 2014 Founders' Day weekend on October 17 and 18 (Iowa State home game). Formal invites will be mailed soon. Finally, I encourage all of you to join the Skull and Crossbones Society formed to support the Texas Alpha Educational Foundation. The Foundation funds the active chapter's attendance at leadership events throughout the year, as well as educational presentations to the active chapter at the house. Plus you get in free to Founders' Day! When you have the chance, come by and meet the chapter. They're doing great and will make you proud to be part of Texas Alpha. The 2014 SigEp recruitment team: Parker Schramm '16, Peyton Wilson '16, Taylor Epperson '16, Preston Martin '16, Brian Buell '16, and Corey Fruithandler '16. At our first tailgate of the year against North Texas, the Texas Alpha Chapter commemorated Brother Hayden Wall '12 who passed away last year. A strong showing of the majority of the active chapter, over 40 Texas Alpha alumni from his pledge class, and Hayden's friends and family gathered in the courtyard to hold a memorial and unveiling of the new outdoor grill dedicated to Hayden. The day was filled with good Texas sun, BBQ, and a UT football win, but most importantly recollections of the joyous times experienced with Hayden. Check out our new website: texassigep.org
