A-Tau Observer www.atonebraska.org 4 A s chapter president, I'm proud to announce that we will be a full- sized house again after summer recruitment. We made big strides in philanthropy, innovation, and community involvement with plans in place to further improve next semester—one of which is a new community-based philanthropy that we've worked hard on. We also have the ambitious goal of winning Top Chapter within the next two years. Talking to our national leadership consultant, we discovered we were in tight contention for the final nominees last year. We hope to improve upon that and be holding onto a Top Chapter trophy by 2016. Undergraduates Pledge $75,000 Thanks to the longstanding success of the chapter, ATW has been very competitive in recruitment with reputation alone. Unfortunately, our disadvantage is the age of our chapter house. Several other fraternities have undergone recent renovations and several more are currently pursuing them. Believing the live-in experience to be the best part of Gamma Theta, we as undergraduates have pledged $75,000 toward the capital campaign. While many of us won't be here as it comes to fruition, we hope to see ATW continue to hold its status at the university. Every Kid Deserves a Bike In addition to our normal Tau Tee Off and ATW softball events, the chapter took a more direct approach to philanthropy this year. After hearing that 8-year-old Jackson was in need of an adaptive bicycle, we chipped in personal funds to see that he got his bike. Jackson suffers from Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease, which affects his motor skills. Despite this, he is one of the most positive, deserving children we've ever met. We were lucky to be invited to a school assembly at Westgate Elementary in Omaha to surprise Jackson with his new bike. WOWT 6 News covered the story, and I encourage you to check out the article, which we shared on our Facebook page: Alpha Tau Omega at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Chapter Welcomes Seven New Brothers Gamma Theta is proud to welcome our new group of spring initiates. They're a bunch of great young men who we're proud to call brothers. As always, we ask you to reach out to our recruitment chairmen, listed on page 5, or members of the board with any recommendations for future brothers. Recognizing our Alumni Alumni are the backbone of our chapter house, without whom Gamma Theta would be nowhere near where it is today. A fraternity is only as good as the men who pass through it, and our alumni are the evidence of Gamma Theta's strong history. I encourage calls from brothers with questions. If you wish to call before placing a donation, I'd love to take the time to talk with you about the direction the chapter is headed. We thank you for your support and generosity toward the capital campaign. We hope to pay you back with Top Chapter, and we're proud to have the alumni support that we do. Thank you!
