ByBeccaBlanchard TheBluffer Editor-in-Chief RED BLUFF The After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens, or ASSET, program is returning to Red Bluff High School. The grant, which funds the pro- gram, was lost last year due to the large state-wide competition for the funding. The after school program will have many similar attributes as it did before. It will run until 5:30 p.m. Mon- day through Friday and will in- clude a multitude of after school activities. Included in this program is not only access to tutoring as well as the computer lab, but also an af- ter school snack. This will all be provided free of cost. THE BLUFFER A erschool program returns to Red Bluff High By Rich Greene rgreene@redbluffdailynews.com @richgreeenenews on Twitter RED BLUFF The Tehama County Planning Commission intends to give plenty of time for vendors to comment before recommending adoption of a new mobile food vending ordinance. The commission directed county staff to hold three public hearings on the proposed ordi- nance over the next 90 days. The ordinance presented to the commission Thursday resembles the one in effect in the city of Red Bluff since 2009. County Planning Director Sean Moore said the existing county code does not allow for taco trucks or other mobile food ven- dors to operate within the incor- porated portions of the county. That would change should the ordinance be adopted, but mo- bile food vendors would first need to obtain a use permit from the county. The Tehama County Secret Witness program is offering a re- ward of up to $1,500 to anyone who has information that leads to an arrest and conviction related to the string of fires on a prop- erty south of the Country Village subdivision. Since Sunday, firefighters have responded to at least four fires at the wooded property near Sacred Heart Parish School. On Monday evening, a three-acre fire dam- aged a home at Cimarron and Meadowview drives and heav- ily damaged fencing in the area. Fires on Sunday afternoon, early Monday morning and Wednesday were held to small areas. The Red Bluff Fire Department said it is investigating each inci- dent and asks anyone with infor- mation on the fires in the area to call the Fire Prevention Bureau of the department at 530-527- 1126, or the Tehama County Se- cret Witness program at 530 529- 1268. The secret witness line can be reached 24 hours per day. Fire officials have previously said the fires were suspicious and called the their investigation "sen- sitive." Red Bluff fire officials also said that early detection and report- ing of fires can reduce the loss of life and damage, and advises res- idents to take action to protect their homes. Area businesses, organiza- tions and police and fire de- partments were highlighted in the parade, as well as the Corn- ing High School band and Miss Olivia, who is perhaps better known as Terry Barbo. Barbo, donning a black ol- ive costume, portrayed an ol- ive swinging from a tree in the parade. Barbo has assumed the role of Miss Olivia for 28 years, she said, adding that it's wonderful to see families enjoying the ol- ive festival year after year. The parade was followed by the Corning Does it Bedder bed races, in which teams roll teammates along Solano Street in specially-designed carts fit- ted with mattresses.
