CHAPTER HOUSE NOW LISTED IN NATIONAL
REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
D
ecember 11, 2013. This date shall be remembered as the day that Al-
pha's very own chapter house joined a most prestigious group. After
two years of discussing, researching, and navigating the application pro-
cess, brothers of Alpha can be proud that the house at 1490 Sage Avenue
not only has state recognition but also national recognition. On this date,
the National Park Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Inte-
rior, added the chapter house to the National Register of Historic Places.
During the 6294 reunion weekend, the chapter honored this designation
with a dedication ceremony for the official plaque commemorating the
chapter house's listing (for more details of the ceremony see page 2).
Please visit the alumni association website at alpha6294.com or the NPS
website at www.nps.gov to read the complete application with its de-
tailed description of the chapter house's construction, architecture, and
the architect, Joseph M. Lawlor. Lawlor, of Lawlor & Hasse, was also
responsible for designing almost all of the green-rooftop buildings on the
RPI campus.
