2 The DELTA PSI SIG 1950 Sigma Chi Petition Discovered B rother Jim Mitchell '51, an original member of Sigma Chi at RPI, found a pristine copy of the 1950 brochure from when local fraternity Phi Epsilon Phi petitioned to Sigma Chi requesting membership. The petition is 5 x 9 inches with 32 glossy pages showcasing an aerial photo of RPI on the front and back covers; a picture of the membership, profiles of the members, pictures of fraternity life in 1950; and countless supporting letters from school officials, local members, and prominent Sigs (including former Grand Consul L.G. Balfour of Balfour Jewelry). Special thanks to Significant Sig Jim Mitchell, recipient of both the RAA Fellows Award and the Rensselaer Davies Medal, for the safekeeping of this memory. Brother Mitchell has donated the booklet to the chapter. A copy can be found on the alumni page of our chapter website at www.sigmachi-rpi.org/ newsletter/1950SigmaChiPetition.pdf. Chapter Anticipates Fall Semester Successful Transition Back to 58 Pinewoods T his past year was an exciting one as we moved into the renovated Pomeroy Chapter House, but it was also full of challenges as we tried to get accustomed to the new building. There were a number of kinks to figure out as far as weekday and weekend work sessions, how to clean the new kitchen, making small repairs overlooked by the contractors, how to use the living spaces effectively, as well as miscellaneous others. Living at 58 Pinewoods all together has been almost surreal compared to the multiple apartments and dorms the prior year. Looking back, I can say we have made a lot of fond memories in the new chapter house, and begun a new era for Delta Psi. It has definitely taken a lot of work from the countless alumni and undergraduate brothers to get our chapter to where it is today. LOOKING AHEAD WITH OUR OFFICERS After living in a new house during these past two semesters, we are beginning to see the fruits of our labor thanks in large to former Consul Joseph Karpie '14, former Pro-Consul Ben Richardson '15, and all other 2013-14 officers. This past year set a foundation for the future success of our chapter. The 2014- 15 executive officers are looking forward to attending Balfour Leadership Training Workshop this summer at Ball State, and planning for a very successful year. This coming year will act as a cornerstone on our foundation to guide the success of our chapter for years to come. AIMING HIGH WITH CONTINUED ALUMNI SUPPORT There is a very bright future ahead for Delta Psi, but we could not have gotten where we are without strong support from our alumni. As we aim high in the coming year, we need the continuing support of our alumni more than ever. If possible, I strongly urge you to attend the upcoming work party August 15-17, or come visit anytime you're around. We'd love to have you! In Hoc, Oskari Rautiainen '15 Consul Thank You for Your Continued Interest in the Building Our Bridge to Excellence Campaign T hank you to the brothers who continue to show their support to Delta Psi and its capital campaign. Recent donations were received by Clarence Quillin '54. We will always be grateful to our loyal donors. Thank you. Pinewoods Educational Foundation Announces New Board Member Dan Hudson '70 I n June, the house corporation approved the recommendation of Pinewoods Educational Foundation (PEF) to add Dan Hudson '70 as treasurer to the board, replacing Paul "PJ" Roughan '78, who has served Sigma Chi and Delta Psi with distinction as the treasurer for both the PEF and the Campaign for SXcellence. Dan's financial background is highly regarded as he recently retired as a certified public accountant. We are fortunate to add Dan to the board and have him accept the treasurer's role, particularly at a time when RPI is focused on the financial stability of the entire fraternity system. Dan's integrity is impeccable as many of us can testify having known him during our undergraduate years. During PJ's tenure, we were successful in exceeding our fundraising goals. In addition, PJ, Jim Manocchi '75, and the entire construction team completed the building program on time and on budget, and he leaves the PEF treasury in really good shape. We were truly fortunate to have had PJ's financial expertise during this major construction period. As the principal person working with our bank lenders, PJ's performance was exceptional. Please join me in thanking PJ for his contribution and welcoming Dan to the PEF as he looks forward to working with us all. In Hoc, Paul Cosgrave '72 PEF President (904) 449-0996 cosgravep@aol.com
