STAFF WRITER Stephanie Crider PUBLISHER Bill Bowman PUBLISHER’S PEN by BILL BOWMAN Over this past week, I spent some time on my bike. With some friends of mine, I traveled from Fayetteville all the way up the east coast to Maine. Over the years, we have traveled down to the Keys, out to Sturgis, S.D., and on one trip all the way to the West Coast. Riding on a bike, you get to see a lot of this great nation, and after each trip, the thought rings in my head: I can’t wait to get home. This trip, it was even more so. I knew that in the coming week, our community, fresh off its designation as an All- America City, would pull out all of the stops to celebrate the freedoms that we all hold so dear, and that our friends and family at Fort Bragg and Pope Army Airfi eld so diligently protect every day. While I saw the majesty of this country on my bike this week, I knew the heart of this country was waiting for me here in one of the most patriotic cities in America. So get ready folks, we are in for a wild ride! This is going to be a very special and exciting holiday for our community as Fayetteville, Cumberland County and Fort Bragg come alive this week with many exciting and fun fi lled 4th of July events and celebrations. County-wide parades, fi reworks, music, food, concerts, art, entertainment and trolley rides all in celebration of the birth of our nation and Fayetteville’s recent honor as being recognized as a 2011 All-America City are on tap. In addition, the North Carolina State Veterans Park will “offi cially” be dedicated Fayetteville’s Weather Forecast Thursday June 30 Friday July 1 Saturday July 2 Fayetteville’s Weather Forecast and opened to the public at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4. What better way to ring in our nation’s birthday than by dedicating and consecrating a piece of our community to honor and memorialize the gallant men and women of our great state who have served in such a heroic fashion. This newest downtown Fayetteville attraction will complement the Airborne and Special Operations Museum while honoring North Carolina military veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces. It will also attract visitors to our city from all over the country. Perfect! Yes, this is going to be one of the best 4th of July celebrations our community has ever experienced. I hope you will accept my invitation to join us downtown this weekend to share these wonderful and unique experiences with your family, friends and neighbors. Come experience the real Fayetteville/Cumberland County community. For many months, hundreds of people have been working diligently on the front lines and behind the scenes to elevate our community to this prestigious level. To all, we say thank you. Your efforts have paid off. However, we must continue our winning ways for there is still much work to be done. In the meantime, enjoy the holiday, our publication and the community for which it is dedicated. Nothing to do in Fayetteville? Read on. BILL BOWMAN, Publisher, Up & Coming Weekly, COMMENTS?
