The moist, unstable atmosphere will yield spotty, drenching storms in the Southeastern states. A zone of drench- ing, gusty and locally severe thunderstorms will stretch from the middle part of the Mississippi Valley to the Ohio Valley and northern New Eng- land. An advancing front will be the main focusing point for the storms in this swath. Cooler and less humid air will expand over the North Central states. The town where the girls were kidnapped, Chibok, is cut off by militants, who have been attacking vil- lages in the region. Seven fathers of kid- napped girls were among 51 bodies brought to the Chibok hospital after an at- tack on the nearby village of Kautakari this month, said a health worker who insisted on anonymity for fear of reprisals by the ex- tremists. At least four more par- ents have died of heart fail- ure, high blood pressure and other illnesses that the community blames on trauma due to the mass ab- duction 100 days ago, said community leader Pogu Bitrus, who provided their names. "One father of two of the girls kidnapped just went into a kind of coma and kept repeating the names of his daughters, until life left him," said Bitrus. President Goodluck Jona- than met Tuesday with par- ents of the 219 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls and some classmates who man- aged to escape from Is- lamic extremists. Jonathan pledged to continue work- ing to see the girls "are brought out alive," said his spokesman of the meeting which press were not per- mitted to attend. The par- ents showed no emotion af- ter the meeting, but some shook hands with the pres- ident. Chibok, the town where the girls were kidnapped, is cut off because of frequent attacks on the roads that are studded with burned out vehicles. Commercial flights no longer go into the troubled area and the gov- ernment has halted charter flights. Through numerous phone calls to Chibok and the surrounding area, The Associated Press has gath- ered information about the situation in the town where the students were kid- napped from their school. More danger is on the ho- rizon. Boko Haram is closing in on Chibok, attacking villages ever closer to the town. Villagers who sur- vive the assaults are swarm- ing into the town, swelling its population and strain- ing resources. A food crisis looms, along with short- ages of money and fuel, said community leader Bitrus. The Associated Press BELLEVILLE, ILL. Would you relish having a tow- ering ketchup bottle? That emblem of roadside Americana could be yours if you fork over enough money. A "For Sale" sign is in front of what's billed as the "World's Largest Bot- tle of Catsup," the land- mark that once served as a water tower in the city of Collinsville, east of St. Louis, the Belleville News-Democrat reported Tuesday. The asking price for the 65-year-old, 170-foot-tall landmark is $200,000, with the warehouse ad- jacent to it listed at $300,000. The landmark repli- cates a bottle of Brooks Old Original Rich and Tangy Catsup, which was produced in the buildings beneath the tower. The 100,000-gallon tower held water — never ketchup — and it hasn't been used since Brooks moved out in the early 1960s. The plant later became a warehouse used for ship- ping and trucking opera- tions of Bethel-Eckert, which for four decades serviced military commis- saries before losing its con- tracts. Larry Eckert, the owner, initially considered selling the ketchup bottle and warehouse separately, then decided one can't go without the other.
