Trainor Park in Red Bluff. By Andre Byik abyik@redbluffdailynews.com @andrebyik on Twitter RED BLUFF Tammy Walker, a 28-year-old military vet- eran from Redding, has as- sisted other veterans through her work with Redding Vet- erans of Foreign Wars, the Shasta County Veterans Affil- iated Council and the Tehama County Veterans Collaborative. On Saturday, a newly- formed group that pairs veter- ans with companion dogs pro- vided Walker with some help of her own. The group, Veterans and Shelter Pets, teamed with Vig- ilant Canine Services Interna- tional to start its companion dog program, which paired Walker with Volter, a 2-year- old German shepherd. Walker said much of her time is spent working with other veterans in the commu- nity. She said she doesn't think about time to spend on herself. "So this is kind of like my time for myself, but at the same time I'm able to give back," said Walker, who spent an afternoon walking, playing and training with Volter with the help of Candy Carlson, a trainer with Veterans and Shel- ter Pets and a Red Bluff busi- nesswoman, at John R. Trainor Park. "I'll be the test dummy any time for a gorgeous dog."
