REDBLUFF Field work is sched- uled to start Monday at the for- mer site of the Cinderella Motel on the banks of the Sacramento River at Antelope Boulevard and Rio Street. It will be the board's first meet- ing since the June 3 election re- sults were certified. During the election Tehama County voters were asked whether the board should support the sep- aration. The advisory measure passed with 56.9 percent of the vote. The proposed resolution refer- ences the lack of representation for rural and frontier counties in the California Legislature, the history of the state of Jefferson movement and the June 3 election as reasons for the declaration. The jury, which spent less than an hour deliberating the case Friday evening, also found that Hougland, 40, used a deadly weapon — a knife — in Forseth's death. "It's correct," said Frank Fors- eth, Samuel Forseth's father, of the verdict. He also thanked the Tehama County District Attor- ney's Office for its work. Hougland, who remains in custody, faces a sentence of 26 years to life in state prison, and is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 20. Over the course of two days, jurors heard witnesses recount a bloody scene in the early-morn- ing hours of June 27, 2013, when Forseth, a military veteran, of Palo Cedro was found dead on a porch in the 200 block of Pi- non Way in Red Bluff by law en- forcement officials. Assistant District Attorney Matthew Rogers argued that after Forseth was stabbed by Hougland in Hougland's home on Pinon Way, he managed to make his way to a residence across the street and call for help. Rogers argued that when a neighbor went to call 911, Hougland cut Forseth's throat and "finished him off." Defense attorney Jonathan Griffith argued that Hougland acted in self defense and in de- fense of his family after Forseth threatened to kill himself and at- tacked Hougland with a knife. Hougland was treated for three minor cuts at St. Elizabeth Com- munity Hospital and was later ar- rested on suspicion of murder. The prosecution called six wit- nesses to testify during the trial, and rested its case Thursday, when the trial began. The $13,500 donation from Christopher and Karra Crowley, longtime proponents of the pool who have donated thousands of dollars to go toward the pool over the years, would keep McGlynn Pool open past the July 19 date previously set. "The costs of operating the McGlynn Pool far exceeded the revenue generated by pool admission fees, etc.," according to a city staff document. "Due to the lack of a certified swim instructor, the city was not able to offer swimming lessons this summer, further reducing pool revenue." If the donation is accepted, the pool would be open 1-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday during the extended period from July 21 through Aug. 16, according to the donation agreement. The pool is closed Sundays. Wednesdaynightfarmers market After testing out the addition of a beer garden at the Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce's Wednesday night farmers market on June 18, the chamber is requesting to hold three more beer and wine gardens on July 30, Aug. 20 and Sept. 10. The City Council will consider adopting a resolution allowing for three more beer gardens. In a note to the city, the Chamber called its first garden, dubbed the Overtime Canteen, a "huge success." According to the note, area businesses around the market's initial beer garden, such as the Countryside Cafe and the Round Up Saloon, said they are supporters of the garden.
