Corning Exchange Club members and guests met at the Los Molinos Masonic Family Center June 21 for a great dinner and dessert catered and prepared by Marlene Mason. Newly elected board members and officers for the 2014-2015 term were administered the oath of their offices by County Supervisor Bob Williams. Robert Thayer was in- stalled as president; Dean Cofer as president elect for 2015-2016; Marsha Provo as secretary; Roxie Rose Cofer as treasurer; and Bucky Bowen, Gena Bowen, Bob Lester, John Richards, Ross Turner and Sheila Hutchins as executive board mem- bers. Special guest Kayla Jo Thayer was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for winning 13 of 16 state- wide shot put and dis- cus events during the past school year. Kayla, granddaugh- ter of President Robert Thayer, recently gradu- ated from Red Bluff High School, and will be go- ing on to University of California Santa Barbara in the fall on an athletic scholarship. The members of the Corning Exchange Club are most appreciative that Williams accepted an invi- tation to serve as install- ing officer, and attended the dinner with his wife, Candy. Cofer thanked all of the club members for the hard work that they all put into the club's fundraising ef- forts throughout the year, making it possible for the club to help support so many youth sports teams and other worthy commu- nity activities. CORNINGEXCHANGE Clubinstallsnewofficers Parents who have lost their license due to unpaid child support can get their license back now through Sept. 30 after making a $25 payment, if their case is managed by Tehama De- partment of Child Support Services. "We believe this outreach will entice parents who are not making payments to re-engage with our depart- ment. That will result in more money for children," said Tonya Moore, Tehama DCSS director. License suspension is an effective enforcement tool used to encourage child support payments. DCSS suspends driver's licenses, professional licenses, busi- ness and recreational li- censes of non-custodial par- ents who owe past due child support and fail to comply with court orders to pay support. Typically, to get a driver's license released at least one full monthly payment plus a payment on arrears would be required. To qualify for the spe- cial $25 promotion through Sept. 30, parents must call or meet in person with their case manager at Tehama DCSS. To keep the driver's license a parent must make monthly payments for the full amount of their child support order. Most parents will qualify for this offer, but some are exempt. Individuals with active child support bench warrants or active legal ac- tions relating to their child support case such as PC270 violations or contempt hearings need to purge their contempt or take care of their warrant before a li- cense release will be made. If a parent has multiple cases in other counties, the other county may also be consulted prior to releas- ing the license. License suspensions due to child support impact in- dividuals from all income levels and geographic loca- tions. Departments in Te- hama County are partner- ing with DCSS to spread the word about the license release project to help en- sure everyone who could benefit is aware of the op- portunity. Agencies participating are: Tehama County Pro- bation, Alternatives to Vi- olence, WIC, Job Training Center, Drug & Alcohol, Tehama County Social Ser- vices, Child Care Referral & Education, Tehama County Mental Health, TCDE Early Childhood Education, and local law enforcement. Chief Probation Officer Richard Muench is lending his support of the project by encouraging Probation cli- ents to consider the driver's license offer. "Child Support Services has been an extremely good partner in our efforts for Of- fenders to take responsibil- ity for their prior actions. The current program where an offender can make a modest $25 dollar payment, set up a payment plan, and in return get their license reinstated is a perfect ex- ample of the two agencies partnership," said Muench. For more informa- tion, call Tehama DCSS at 1-866-901-3212 or visit 1005 Vista Way, Suite A in Red Bluff 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. CHILD SUPPORT Department offers chance to regain licenses CHESTER A botanist from the Lassen National For- est will lead a guided walk on Saturday, July 12, to in- troduce participants to the summer wildflowers at the Willow Lake Botanical Spe- cial Interest Area. Willow Lake features floating mats of sphagnum moss that support many rare plant species, includ- ing one that is carnivorous. In addition to the fen and wet meadow habitats of Willow Lake, participants will explore adjacent forest understory. The walk, a light hike of about one mile, will be- gin at 10 a.m. at the Willow Lake Campground. Total walk time will be approx- imately two hours. Partici- pants should bring hiking boots, a hat, layered cloth- ing appropriate for any sud- den changes in weather, in- sect repellant, a hand lens (magnifying glass), water, snacks, and a camera. Directions: From Ches- ter, California, turn north off Highway 36 onto County Road 318, signed for Lassen Volcanic National Park, Ju- niper Lake. After a half- mile, turn left on County Road 312, and go about five miles to a "Y" road fork. Take the left fork (County Road 311), following the sign for Domingo Springs. The right fork is signed for Warner Valley and Drakes- bad. After about a mile, turn right on Forest Road 29N14, a gravel-surfaced road. Follow this road to its end at Willow Lake Camp- ground, about 3.5 miles. The road surface changes to maintained dirt, but is passable for ordinary mo- tor vehicles. Parking is lim- ited, and car-pooling is en- couraged. A Lassen National Forest map could be helpful and may be purchased at local Forest Service offices or on- line at http://www.fs.usda. gov/lassen.
