Oct. 11 Scumbum Battle of the Bands Band FAQ: Big Daddy Drive Members and what instruments they play – Keith Ross — Lead Guitar, Vocals Jami Moore — Lead Vocals, Guitar Josh Bryant — Guitar John Gales — Bass Mark Schwarze — Drums, Vocals Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? BIG DADDY DRIVE began as an idea in the mind of bassist John Gales in 2004 after hearing singer Jami Moore, who was paying dues out in the smoky bars across eastern North Carolina. John envisioned a three-piece acoustic outfit and imme- diately convinced guitarist Keith Ross to join. The three set about putting to- gether acoustic ver- sions of classic rock and country hits with the intention of playing smaller, more intimate shows. After many months in rehearsal, the three knew that something was missing and put in a call to drummer Mark Schwarze. As a full four-piece band, the dynamics of the music changed, as did the original vision for the band. The four proceeded to charge through high-energy versions of classic and modern hits, while maintaining more restrained and mel- low periods during their shows across venues all over eastern North Carolina. The band became known for their outrageous live shows that often included controlled chaos and crowd pleasers such as the "Booty Shakin' Contest." Along the way BIG DADDY DRIVE wanted to beef up their sound and recruited hard-driving guitar- ist Josh Bryant as the fifth member of the band. It's been a long, strange trip from acoustic three-piece to rocking quintet, but it's been a lot of fun. How did the band get its name? Two months of searching brought us to no names. A band friend blurted out the name off the top of her head. It stuck. How would you define your music? Straight ahead rock with pop, country and metal influences. Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? Many of us grew up on '80s metal, but we all have a wide array of musical tastes. We like no nonsense rock-n-roll that emphasizes a good time. AC/DC, Journey, Tom Petty, Hootie & the Blowfish are all on the set list. Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? We do write our own music and have two original songs in the live show. A full CD of original music will be released in January on our own label. Inspiration comes from the experiences of our lives. If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be? Party Rock! What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? We hope to finish our CD and distribute to the public by January 2010, con- tinue to book shows across N.C. and S.C. and see what happens. Where do you see the band five or 10 years from now? Five years -Hopefully continuing to write and record and perform music; 10 years – rocking the nursing home! Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in the near future? We will be performing at The Doghouse in Fayetteville on Oct 16. Show starts at 10:00 p.m. On the Web, fans can find us atwww.myspace.com/bigdaddydrive or www.facebook.com/bigdaddydrive Fayetteville's Friendly Neighborhood Bar A Private Club for Members and Their Guests #SBHH#MWEt 4ZDBNPSF4RVBSFt#FIJOE4VCXBZ Ask About Our Specials A k Ab t A k Ab t Now Open! /.BJO4U4UF )PQF.JMMTt Beside Holiday Inn Express
