A Red Bluff woman on Sunday reported that her daughter had run away from home and was possibly headed to Texas with an unknown male, according to a Red Bluff police press release. Detectives Scott Curtis and Aaron Murray, according the release, learned that the girl had been communicating with a 17-year- old boy from Texas through the Internet, and the two minors had arranged for the boy to drive to Red Bluff, pick up the girl, and drive back to Texas together. The two teens were found in New Mexico Monday night, and the girl was in good health and unharmed "despite her risky behavior," according to the release. Police said the girl had never met the boy in person prior to being picked up in Red Bluff. Police noted that this was the second case in the last six months in which a Red Bluff teen was willing travel through multiple states with a person she met over the Internet. In March, a 13-year-old Red Bluff girl was found in Massac County, Illinois with a 21-year- old man from Manchester, Tennessee a day after she was reported missing. The girl was found unharmed by the Massac County Sheriff's Department. "The Red Bluff Police Department encourages parents to monitor their children's Internet activity and be aware that there are people in society who are willing to drive hundreds if not thousands of miles to pick up a teen that they have been communicating with over the Internet," according to the release. Red Bluff police said that through the use of technology, interviews and the cooperation of multiple agencies throughout the U.S., police detectives have been able to locate the missing teenagers and return them to their families unharmed. RED BLUFF Missing teen found unharmed in New Mexico Second case of Red Bluff teen found outside California in last 6 months Staff reports RED BLUFF Red Bluf f residents have had to revel in Fourth of July festivities without a fireworks display in town for the last two years. But that could change this coming Independence Day — weather permitting. T he Teha ma C ou nt y F i r e w o r k s C o m m i t t e e recently received an OK from the city to hold a fireworks show about 9:30 p.m. at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge on July 4. People are encouraged to watch the show from River Park along the Sacramento River off Main Street. Alcohol will be permitted at the park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The committee's fireworks show last year was canceled by fire officials after just two test shots were launched from the Elks Lodge because high winds swept through the area. A vegetation fire that was sparked at River Park because of the improper use of legal fireworks also burned a 30- by 130-foot area around the time the committee was set to launch its fireworks from the lodge across from the park. That fire, which was driven by erratic winds, was knocked down by Red Bluff and Cal Fire firefighters. T he Red Bluf f Fire Department will provide personnel at River Park for the planned fireworks display next week, and Corning Fire Department personnel will voluntarily oversee the show from the Elks Lodge. The Red Bluff Police Department is scheduled to provide traffic and crowd control during the event at an estimated cost of about $2,000 to $3,000 to the city in overtime. T he Red Bluf f Fire Department held an annual Fourth of July fireworks show from the 1950s to 2008, when a rash a wildfires across the North State postponed the show. The fire department ended its involvement with holding a show after 2008. The Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce took over promotion of a fireworks show at the Tehama District Fairground in 2009, but ended fundraising and staging efforts in 2012. T he Teha ma C ou nt y Fireworks Committee was formed later that year and has headed fundraising efforts since to bring back a fireworks display for the county.
