Parker took on the role of Paskenta Police Chief in May amid aleadershipdisputewithinthetribe. He had aligned himself with four ousted members of the tribe's five- member Tribal Council, which gov- erns the tribe, and had stated that his goal was to bring the tribe back together. Five students were on the bus at the time of the collision. A 13-year-old boy received mi- nor injuries and was treated at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for his injuries. He had rejoined his classmates by mid-morning, Superintendent Jenny Marr said. Ronda Dimitriadis, 47, Gerber, was driving the bus southbound on 99W shortly before 7:30 a.m. when she activated her right turn signal and started to slow the bus to turn onto Rodeo Avenue. According to a California High- way Patrol collision report 27-year- old Darren Cox from Red Bluff was drivinga2004Nissanbehindthebus. He was distracted by his passen- ger and did not realize the bus was slowing in front of him to turn and as a result collided with the rear of the bus. All parties involved were wear- ing seat belts. Melissa Whatley, the 24-year- old passenger in the Nissan, from Red Bluff, was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico with ma- jor injuries. Dimitriadis also suffered major injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital. Cox was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Gerber School is in session un- til June 12. Marr said the students were on their way to school when the colli- sion occurred. Valedictorian Chantal Na- rez urged her classmates to take chances with their future, but to remember and be proud of where they came from.
