KATHYWILLENS—THEASSOCIATEDPRESS The Oakland Athletics' Brandon Moss watches his 10th- inning solo home run Tuesday off New York Yankees relief pitcher Adam Warren in New York. ByHowieRumberg TheAssociatedPress NEWYORK BrandonMosshithissec- ond homer of the game leading off the 10th inning, and the Oakland Athlet- ics rallied for a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Returning to the lineup after miss- ing two games with a strained right calf, Moss drilled a full-count pitch from Adam Warren (1-3) into the sec- ond deck down the right field line for his 15th homer. That gave the AL West-leading A's their first lead in a game that was delayed more than an hour at the start by rain. The major's best run-producing of- fense then got an RBI double from Jed Lowrie and a run-scoring single from Kyle Blanks to open a big lead for Oak- land's suspect back end of the bullpen. Sean Doolittle finished off the A's fourth straight win with a perfect 10th for his sixth save. Doolittle extended his scoreless streak to 15 1/3 innings. Dan Otero (5-1) pitched an inning for the A's, who improved to 7-13 when trailing after seven innings. Pinch-hitter Stephen Vogt hit a ty- ing double off Dellin Betances with two outs in the eighth inning. Be- tances walked Albert Callaspo before Vogt drilled a full-count pitch into the right-center gap. Betances had not walked a batter over his previous 10 appearances (15 1/3 innings). The injury-depleted Yankees came in looking hardly like the Bronx Bomb- ers they are expected to be. With an opening-day payroll about $120 million more than the A's, New York had hit just five homers in 15 games and none in the two Mark Teixeira sat with in- flammation in his surgically repaired right wrist. Teixeira, though woke up pain-free Tuesday and manager Joe Girardi made the switch-hitter the cleanup batter. Ausberry is back healthy and once again making a bid to seize that job after Oakland let starter Jeron Mastrud leave in free agency and chose not to add any other proven tight ends. This well could be the last chance for Ausberry, who has shown flashes of being a legiti- mate NFL tight end but has not done it consistently enough in his first three NFL seasons. "It's one of those things I try not to think about too much," Aus- berry said. "My job is to get on the field and be productive and do what I can do to help this team." Devin Mesoraco hit a two-run homer off the right-hander and Jay Bruce emerged from a slump by driving in a pair of runs Tues- day night, leading Cincinnati to its season-high fourth win in a row, an 8-3 victory over the sloppy San Francisco Giants. Mesoraco hit his ninth homer off Lincecum (4-5), who has beaten the Reds during the playoffs but never during the regular season. Bruce, who spent time on the disabled list following surgery for torn knee cartilage, knocked in his first run since April 25. The Giants have the majors' best record at 37-21, but were un- done by a season-high four errors. Lincecum had a throwing error, and catcher Hector Sanchez threw two balls into center field on steal attempts. "We were off tonight between our pitching and defense," man- ager Bruce Bochy said. "It was an off-night all around." Homer Bailey (6-3) went six in- nings in his first game against the Giants since his no-hitter against them last July 2 at Great American Ball Park. The right-hander gave up three runs and five hits, includ- ing Hunter Pence's homer, double and single.
