Honoring our History, Building our Future I t has been another strong year for the Gamma Pi Chapter. Our men continue to have an ingrained culture of excellence and leadership, and the new executive leadership has breathed a renewed sense of purpose within the chapter. Fresh off our 30th Court of Honor award, our men are already preparing for a successful 2014 fall semester. We are actively recruiting incoming freshmen, and hosted a successful recruitment weekend in late March. Preserving Gamma Pi Traditions The next year will be an interesting opportunity for Gamma Pi. As we transition to a new chapter facility, it will be important to preserve the values and traditions of Gamma Pi. The new member e d u c a t i o n p r o g r a m s h o u l d a l s o e m p h a s i z e academics as the top priority. The eight-week period is a time to firmly establish successful academic practices for each new member. Proctored study sessions are positive, but other steps must be taken. Having these men attend academic workshops sponsored by the university, requiring them to meet with college professors with signed proof, and taking advantage of other resources such as a writing center or tutor, will help them for semesters to come. This is an exciting time to be a part of Gamma Pi. Gamma Pis Are Campus Leaders In addition to Gamma Pi's participation in philanthropy, many of our members serve in leadership roles in campus organizations. For the third consecutive year, we have had a chapter leader serve as the blood drive co-director, and the previous year had 15 Delts serving as an executive or committee member on blood drive. Additionally, the chapter has had three of the last five Interfraternity Council presidents, with active participation on the council every year. These are but a few examples of the outstanding campus involvement by the men of our chapter that continues to designate Delta Tau Delta as a leader on Iowa State's campus. Chapter Looks to Improve Academics Overall, Gamma Pi is a very strong group. As a chapter, we are working to continually improve our acadmic standing. Although Gamma Pi is competitive with the five other fraternities with 80+ members, comparable in roster size, we recognize the potential for growth. Gamma Pi has a renewed commitment to excellence in this integral area and we have put forth positive academic programming to better support the younger men of the chapter so they can have the greatest possible chance for success. We look forward to improvement this spring and beyond. I envision nothing but future success for this group. We are recognized campus leaders and men of integrity. So long as we continue to recruit men like ourselves, with a stronger emphasis on academic achievement during recruitment and academic support during the year, we will thrive and hopefully add to our Hugh Shields collection. As I move on from this position, I am confident I will be hearing of chapter accomplishments in the years to come. It is a great time to be a Gamma Pi Delt.
