4A Daily News – Thursday, May 19, 2011 Pastimes Kayak tours, hikes to the falls Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will offer free ranger-guided kayak tours during the Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30. “Whiskeytown is a wonderful place to visit with family and friends and this is the perfect time for kayaking as well as other healthy outdoor activities,” said Superin- tendent Jim Milestone. In addition to the popu- lar kayak tours, a special hike to Brandy Creek and Whiskeytown Falls will also be offered. Reservations for the kayak programs and the waterfall hikes are required and can be made by calling 242-3462 start- ing at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24. Although partici- pants must have a valid park entrance pass to par- ticipate, there is no addi- tional fee for attending these special programs. In observance of Memorial Day May 30, American Flags through- out the country will fly at half-staff. Pollack, widely considered the hottest jazz pianist coming up, was a guest on NPR’s Piano Jazz when he was only 19.
