18 UCW SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 6, 2009 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM wfss With October just around the corner and a lot of derby-related action on the way, the Rogue Rollergirls can be found all over the place this weekend! Luckily, I'm here to provide you with the inside scoop on where to find them! Friday, Oct. 2 is the opening night of Drew Barrymore's directorial debut film Whip It! This movie is about how finding roller derby changes the life of one small-town Texas teen. As the wild world of roller derby is near and dear to the heart of every Rogue, you'll be sure to find a bunch of them at Carmike Cinemas in the Market Fair Mall on Skibo Road on opening night. Look for them lingering around in their Rogue shirts. Keep your eyes on the Web site (www. myspace.com/roguerollergirls) for details on when they'll be there. If you enjoyed the movie and would like to see some live roller derby action right here in Fayetteville, just approach one of the Rollergirls, as they will surely have tickets for our upcoming bout for sale! Even if you didn't enjoy the movie, you should approach one of the girls and give them a chance to show you how awesome derby really is. Following their night at the movies, some of the Rogues will be swinging by one of their favorite hangouts — Paddy's Irish Pub on Raeford Road — for a night of fun and derby merriment. Come out and join them as they dance the night away, to the vocal stylings of Paddy, in true derby fashion. Performance Tattoo, one of Rogue's newest friends, will host the grand open- ing on Saturday, Oct. 3 on Yadkin Road. You'll find your Rogues there from 2 p.m. until the party is over. They will have their own booth set up where you can purchase merchandise and tickets to the next night's bout. Come join the Rogue Rollergirls on Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Round-A-Bout Skate Rink, off Bragg Boulevard, in the Eutaw Shopping Center. You will see the debut of Rogue's new home teams in action as the Homewreckers face off against the Ritzy Rollers. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m., and the match will begin promptly at 5 p.m. You can get your tickets in advance from one of your favorite Rollergirls, or at Edward McKay's on Bragg Boulevard. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 8 – 15. Children 7 and under get in free! Hope to see you there!
