MEMORIAL DAY ATMEMORIALHALL CORNING Tehama County Health Services Agency — Public Health Division, in collaboration with the Cal- ifornia Highway Patrol and Corning Ford, urges parents and caregivers to have their children's car seats checked 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Corning Ford. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to inspect car seats and provide free advice. This will be a penalty free event. Seats will be checked for proper installation, fit, re- call and damage. Replace- ment seats will be available. No registration is neces- sary, but parents and care- givers are asked to bring their child, their vehicle with instruction manual, the child's car or booster seat and car seat instructions. These events are designed to increase awareness and proper use of car seats. Red Bluff Highway Patrol Officer Matt Thompson says three out of four car seats are in- stalled incorrectly. Call Tehama County Pub- lic Health at (530) 527-6824. SAFETY Fr ee c ar s ea t inspection set I've got some tips for driving food costs down. FIND THE DEALS Hire help. Would you fork over $1.25 a week for someone to help you scour the aisles of your supermar- ket for the week's best sales, figure out which coupons go with those sales, tell you exactly where those coupons are, figure out the net cost, show you how much you'll save and then hand it to you in a tidy list? Then you need to check out The Grocery Game (everyday- cheapskate.com/grocer- ygame). Tip: Try a free 4-week trial. Get more than books: Amazon Grocery offers hundreds of thousands of nonperishable grocery items, with free Super Saver shipping on orders over $35. In exchange for competitive pricing, you'll be buying in larger quantities than at a tradi- tional grocery store. But here's the fun part: Amazon of- fers plenty of va- rieties. SHOP SALES Go cherry picking. A great way to save money is to handpick the "loss lead- ers" (items priced be- low the store's costs just to get you through the door) from several stores in your area. My Grocery Deals (mygrocerydeals. com) is a cherry picker's dream come true. Register at the site, and then select the stores in your neighborhood and watch all the sales pop up. As you select an item, the site creates a shop- ping list for you, arranged by store, with subtotals for each and a grand total. Print it out and you can see at a glance the regu- lar price, the price you'll pay at checkout and the amount you'll save. CHECK IT TWICE. Pay attention. Grocery store scanners are not al- ways reset with current sales prices. Your chances of being charged the full price on a sale item are high. To get the right deal, stay alert and watch the scanner. Speak up if you see a discrepancy. Get a rain check. Ad- vertised sale items can sell out quickly. But don't despair if you get to the store too late. Simply stop at Customer Service and ask for a rain check. That's all you need to get the sale price when the stock is replenished, even if the sale is over. The savings happen right now. If you normally spend $225 a week for food and by using clever cost-saving measure you get the same amount of food for $175, that's $50 in your pocket instantly. You don't have to work over- time, wait for payday or even pay taxes on it. Wouldyouliketosendatip to Mary? You can email her at mary@everydaycheap- skate.com, or write to Eve- ryday Cheapskate, P.O. Why I support HARLEY NORTH for Tehama County Superintendent of Schools Paid Political Advertisement At a time when most Superintendents last less than five (5) years in a district, Harley North successfully served the Evergreen School District for over 25 years. In the process, through his dedication, perseverance and visionary leadership, he created one of the consistently highest achieving school districts North of Sacramento. For 18 of those years, I worked with him and quite simply," He Gets Things Done". EffectiveExperienceDoesCount, and So Does Integrity and Commitment! That is Why I support Harley North as the next Tehama County Superintendent of Schools.
