StaffReports HAMILTONCITY GlennCountyde- tectives are "aggressively" inves- tigating the death of a man whose badly burned body was found Sat- urday in an orchard. The Glenn County Sheriff's Of- fice's detectives have been poring over missing person cases, but there have been none that appear to be related, Sheriff Larry Jones said Monday. Detectives have also gone through the crime scene with metal detectors. The body was found east of Highway 45 and north of County Road 22, about a mile south of Hamilton City, at around 4:10 p.m. Saturday by a worker on the Bil- liou Ranch, according to a press release from the Glenn County Sheriff's Office. Presentations were made on be- half of St. Elizabeth Community Hospital's parent company, Dignity Health, and Feather River Hospi- tal. The district's board opted to lease the facility, at 155 Solano St., to Feather River. Todd Smith, president and CEO of St. Elizabeth in Red Bluff, pre- sented a proposition by his orga- nization to open a rural clinic in Corning in the near future. He said the company would like to re- tain the Corning Medical Associ- ates employees. World War II pilot Robert Kelly was the keynote speaker, sharing tales of combat, captivity and life during wartime. A foreman at a shipyard in Or- egon, Kelly's path into the war was atypical. Having purchased a car with a supercharger, Kelly earned himself six speeding tick- ets in short order, he told the crowd gathered at the hall. A judge took his license away and said, "They're looking for people who like to go fast in the Air Force." The Lady Spartans closed their season with 23 straight wins, capped by Saturday's dramatic 4-3 win in extra in- nings over the last team to de- feat them - the Enterprise Lady Hornets. Bailey Akins doubled home Sam Jones in the ninth inning, who blew past the stop sign at third and scored all the way from first base for the game winning run. A half inning earlier Jones from center field threw out the potential game winning run at home plate. Hailee Nicholls finally closed the door on Enterprise setting the Lady Hornets down in order in the bottom half of the ninth inning to kick start the smiles and tears of joy. It was a celebration of not just the players, coaches and their families, but one that included other members of the commu- nity such as the girls' youth in- structors as well. It looked for the first half of the game as if Red Bluff's win streak was going to go down in the record books by being bookmarked with losses to En- terprise. Enterprise jumped on Red Bluff in the bottom of the first inning when Katrina Winter- burn singled home Mikayla Ne- wham for the game's opening score. Meanwhile their pitcher Mi- kayla Robinette was keeping the Lady Spartans off the base paths.
