Bluegrass Fever Band by STEPHANIE CRIDER Up & Coming Weekly recently heard from the Bluegrass Fever Band. This is what we learned from them. UCW: Who are the band members and what instruments do they play? BFB: Bill Nagle plays the guitar and sings lead and har- mony vocals. Bob “Bodine” Phillips plays the mandolin and also CONNECTION Concert Bluegrass Fever Band sings lead and harmony vocals. Buck Thrailkill is our banjo player and sings too. Mike “Tank” Turner plays the bass guitar and sings. Our newest member, Mike, does a great job on the electric bass guitar and sings harmony. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? BFB: Combined, we have more than 148,000 hours of experience (some of it playing as a band!) We met through church, the Internet and the bluegrass commu- nity. We are based where we live: Fayetteville, N.C., and surrounding communities. We have been rehearsing material for several months and have played in church as a band a couple of times. Experienced musicians, all have been playing music for many years. UCW: How did the band get its name? BFB: We choose the name Bluegrass Fever to briefly describe a hard-driving acoustic instrument-based band. Kinda have to hear us to get the drift. UCW: How would you define your music? BFB: Our influences are many, but just to give you an idea of our main in- fluences/ingredients, think: Newgrass Revival, Blue Highway, Ricky Scaggs, Lonesome River Band, Kruger Brothers, Sam Bush, Country Gents, Seldom Scene, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, the Stanley Brothers, and Flatt and Scruggs, Big Daddy Love, Carl Jackson ... and throw in a little Jesus ... and mix ‘em all up. UCW: If you had just two words to describe yourselves, what would they would be? BFB: Tradnewcoustic Bluefriendgrass. UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now? BFB: Our goals for the future are: making good music for a pleased and ap- preciative crowd. Near-term goals would be to start gigging for select local events and venues, to record a CD(some band members already have recordings and these are/will be available in our online store), and to grow closer as friends.Longer term goals would be to just continue making good acoustic music and have a good time doing it, growing as friends, writing more music, and exploring new musical terri- tory. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? BFB: We, as individuals, have written many songs, but we aren’t currently doing any of them, as we are just melding as a group. We will be writing and per- forming more original material in the near future. UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you out in the near future? BFB: They can check our website: http://bluegrassfeverband. bandvista.com There is a calendar page, that we plan to start filling. STEPHANIE CRIDER, Staff Writer COMMENTS?
