THE COUNSELOR 3 T he Alabama Chapter of Delta Chi has had a year filled with change. We spent the 2013- 14 school year occupying a temporary house while our actual Chapter house underwent a series of much-needed renovations. After taking a recent tour of our facility, we're excited about what's to come. Actives Anticipate New House We are happy with the HCB's choice to keep the location the same, which is closer to campus. Our new house will have a big impact on our fall recruitment. All 34 bedrooms are already filled for the 2014-15 school year with all leases signed. We invite all of our alumni to stop by this fall to visit and see what your generous contributions have helped create. We wouldn't have such an outstanding place to call home if it weren't for you. Thank you. Chapter Honored with Regent's Cup The Alabama Chapter was awarded the Region 8 Regent's Cup for 2014 as the top Delta Chi chapter in our region. We are very proud of this accomplishment. Recruitment Soars at Delta Chi During recruitment last fall, we filled out our membership with a healthy B efore I even stepped foot on campus, I had heard that Delta Chi at the University of Alabama was a family affair. This could not be truer than in my case. Delta Chi touched every part of my family from my father, Jerry Wood, Jacksonville State '76, to my brother (and cur- rent "BB" to the Chapter), Jeremy Wood '05, and even my mother, Sandy Wood (chapter faculty advisor 2003– 2010). So without a doubt, I pledged Delta Chi in fall 2005 alongside 10 of the best pledge brothers you could ever ask for. This decision allowed me to develop many close friendships over the years. While living in the house for three years, my brothers and I had a lot of unforgettable meals, band parties, house swaps, and good ol' front porch sittin'. In fact, I met my future wife on the front steps during a rush party my ju- nior year. This experience alone would have been enough reason for me to contribute to the building campaign, but it was not the only one. In my current role as academic advisor, I still get the pleasure of seeing the house and brotherhood grow even stronger. The past couple of years working with these fine young men has reinforced this sense of family that I experienced as a pledge. In just the past year the Chapter greatly im- proved its GPA and recruited the third-largest pledge class out of all Delta Chi chapters and colonies (four pledges were on presidential scholarship). The quality of men coming out of Delta Chi continues to amaze me, with most accepting jobs to corporate 500 companies like Regions Bank, Wal- Mart, Amazon, Caterpillar, PwC, and Verizon before they even graduate. As I look to the future of Delta Chi, I see continued suc- cess and wish to provide these men every opportunity to have the best learning experience while being a member of Delta Chi at the University of Alabama. That's why I want any alumni who have a positive or encouraging story to tell (professional or personal) to contact me. Starting this fall, I invite alumni to join the Chapter for dinner, en- joy a tour of the new house, and share a few words of advice with the students. I believe the upgraded facilities will continue the success Alabama Chapter has seen in the last several years. To those who have yet to get involved, I ask you to reflect on all the friendships and great times that were fostered in the house during your years at Alabama. Your involvement will continue the traditions you created. There are several ways to contribute, including multi-year pledges or one single donation. In closing, all members of the ABT, HCB, and active Chapter invite you to visit anytime during the 2014-15 school year to enjoy fellowship, great meals, and to see firsthand how your contributions have been invested.
