LOSMOLINOS The Honor- ary Mayor's Race is on. The candidates are raising funds and the competition guar- antees lots of activities to choose from. Scheduled events include raffles, barbecues, cow chip bingo, poker rally, a Luau and the jar displays scat- tered all over town to collect dollars and spare change. Sabrina Fritz, Kenny Brewer, Rick Springer, Brian Fox, Randy Smith and Flower the dog are the can- didates. Visit any of the local busi- nesses to vote for your fa- vorite candidate by putting money into their jar. Buying votes is an honorable thing here with the mayor's race. SabrinaFritz Sabrina Fritz was born and raised in Los Molinos and is being sponsored for mayor by Latimer's Phar- macy. Sabrina is a pharmacy tech, wife and mother with a Bull Mastiff named "Tiny" and a great sense of humor. Friends made her the sign she is holding as a joke one April Fool's Day. She is putting it to work again for the 2014 Mayors Race. Kenny Brewer Kenny Brewer is an ex- tremely experienced mayor and candidate and a Chico State graduate on his way to a law degree. In his free time, Kenny is a DJ extraor- dinaire, Applebee's & Palo- mino Room pinch hitter, a great friend to the LosMo Chamber of Commerce and all his other admirers. Rick Singer Rick Singer, sponsored by Lassen Steak House, is a tried and true friend of Los Molinos and the Chamber of Commerce. Rick holds a July 4th and Mayor's Race Annual Poker Run pulling together like minded Har- ley and other bike riders to gather for the cause. Rick also supports chil- dren in need with his Ben- efit for Kids. Rick works at fundraising all year long for various causes. Bryan Fox Bryan Fox, as sponsored by the Hayloft, is a Los Mo- linos resident for 4 years now coming over from Corn- ing and is very involved with the town, its people, the may- or's race, fireworks, the pa- rade and more. He is a fam- ily man and friend to many. Bryan is the incumbent candidate with many fund- raisers planned. He has big plans to bring back the Luau so stay tuned for all the fun. Flower With a Valentine's Day birthday, 3-year-old Flower enjoys chasing a ball, chew- ing a stick or bouncing the occasional wind-blown bal- loon. She has had one litter of three puppies and is loyal, smart and fun to be around. Flower, aka Mama, can often be seen around Los Molinos, bringing a smile to the faces of those who meet her along the way. Mayor Material for sure. Her good friend Peter England is assisting with her campaign. Ray Thomas From 5th grade in 1971 through high school Ray Thomas enjoyed Los Moli- nos. College in Arizona and a long career until retire- ment in 1982 means Ray can now enjoy his time with fam- ily back in Los Molinos. One thing he wants everyone to know: He intends to give that young whippersnapper Kenny Brewer a run for his money. A Grand Old Flag The goal is to raise money for good causes and the 47th annual Independence Day Parade and Play Day in the Park. This year's parade theme is A Grand Old Flag. Join the fun by entering the parade and winning prizes and trophies. There are lots of categories in which to par- ticipate. Every registered child in the parade gets a dollar piece and a free raffle ticket to win a bike. Every winner at the Play Day gets a 50- cent piece as well. Parade entry forms are tucked into the jar display racks and can be found on www.losmochamber.com. There will be a kick off dinner dance at the VFW Post 3909 in Los Molinos on Saturday, May 31 and for $6 there will be a spaghetti din- ner, dessert and dancing. Meet the candidates and kick up your heels. The Race will end the first week of July. The dollars are counted at Umpqua Bank and the win- ner is announced. The Los Molinos Cham- ber of Commerce will be selling fireworks again this year; watch for the Patriotic Sales Wagon, which will ac- cept credit and debit cards. Proceeds benefit the parade and Play Day. Have no reservations, there's plenty of blue water, camping and updated facil- ities ready for use at Black Butte Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento Dis- trict recreation park near Orland now has 85,000 acre- feet of water — seven times as much as the seasonal low from back when photos of the dry, cracked lake bed came to symbolize Califor- nia's drought. "Those dry photos of our lake from months ago must have stuck in the minds of some folks, so right now's a great opportunity to make Memorial Day and summer camping reservations," said Mary Ann Deeming, park ranger at Black Butte Lake. "We've opened all camp- grounds and boat ramps, plus our regular visitors will notice updates to restroom facilities and playgrounds." Buckhorn Campground contains 65 developed camp- sites and Orland Buttes Campground offers another 35 campsites. Reservations for both campgrounds can be made by calling 1-877-444-6777 or online at http://www.recre- ation.gov. For further information, contact the park office 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 530-865- 4781 or go online.
