university of Kansas page 3 I t is my pleasure and honor to write to you as this year's president of the Gamma Tau Chapter. The first few months of 2014 have been an exciting start to the year. We've had a packed calendar that has included sorority events, community service functions, brotherhood activities, and a bevy of recruitment occasions. With the addition of 20 new Delts initiated last semester, and three current pledges, the chapter is at its largest size since recolonization. Spring Recruitment Underway Like every spring, the chapter's primary focus is recruiting a high-quality pledge class to continue the Delt tradition of excellence at the University of Kansas. Our weekends have been filled with Kansas basketball watch parties, recruitment dinners, a casino night at the Shelter, and the Second Annual Dunk Hoops Tournament in March. Recruitment Chairman Nate Goodwin '16 has been on the lines more than a switchboard operator, and the pledge class is filling up quickly. We are always looking for outstanding young men to pledge Delt, so if you have a referral, please contact Nate at recruitment@kansasdelts.org. Spring Events Planned The chapter has enjoyed a number of activities so far this semester. We paired up with Kappa Delta for a Valentine's Day-themed party. The last week of March we partnered with Alpha Delta Pi for a '70s night at the roller skating rink. Looking forward, we'll be visiting Kauffman Stadium for a Royals game, spring formal, and a bid day party with Pi Beta Phi early in the fall. Members Set Philanthropic and Academic Goals While we've had a blast, it hasn't been all fun and games. Brothers have quickly racked up community service hours by supporting great Lawrence causes like Natural Ties and the Humane Society. We've frequented many philanthropic events, including the SELF Fellowship Pancake Feed, partly organized by our own Cory McCoy '16. Additionally, the 2014 executive board has made academic excellence our number one goal. By instituting academic plans, mandatory study hours for active members, and fostering a better studying environment within the Shelter we hope to see Gamma Tau's GPA soar well above the all-male average and all-Greek average. Chapter Recognized at KU Greek Awards Gamma Tau was recognized at the KU Greek Awards in March. Kansas Delts won Chapter Distinction in risk management and legal liability as well as chapter management. The chapter also earned Chapter Merit in academic performance, membership development and education, leadership and campus engagement, and community awareness. The chapter is also proud of Brett Van Blaricum '17 for winning IFC Outstanding New Member. The Kansas Delts have enjoyed a prosperous few months and look forward to the rest of the semester. The Shelter is always open, and we love to have Gamma Tau alumni visit at any time!
