Free concert features longtime musicians The United State Army Field Band & Soldiers' Chorus is coming to Red Bluff at 7 p.m. Friday. The State Theatre will resound with sounds of a mighty 65-piece military band and 29-member cho- rus. This is a free concert, but tickets are required. Thomas Palmati- er, Commander and Con- ductor Palmatier was appointed Commander and Conductor of The U.S. Army Field Band of Washington, DC, in September 2007. Prior to this he served as Comman- dant of the U.S. Army School of Music, responsi- ble for the training of Army Band Soldiers, Noncom- missioned Officers, Warrant Officers, and Commis- sioned Officers for the Army’s 106 bands world- wide. His previous assign- ments include Commander of the U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus, Execu- tive Officer to The Adjutant General of the Army, and the Department of the Army Staff Bands Officer, over- seeing band activities for all Active, Reserve, and Arts & entertainment High school to present Glee tonight Bobby Slayton at the Cascade The Pit Bull of come- dy, Bobby Slayton, will be making his way through Northern Cal- ifornia and stopping at the Cascade Theatre in Redding for a 7:30 p.m. show Friday. Fresh off of headlining the Las Vegas Strip, Slayton has been named one of the top 100 comedians of all time by Comedy Central. He has been featured in countless films such as Get Shorty, The Rat Pack, and Dream- girls. His numerous television appearances include The Tonight Show, Politically Incorrect with Bill Mahre, Lopez Tonight and the wildly popular animated series Family Guy. Slayton has more than 30 years of comedy experi- ence under his belt. His intense style of in your face comedy has made him one of the most respected and energetic comics working today. The New York Daily News described Slayton as "Armed and Dangerous." The event is being produced by Z-NIRP Entertain- ment and will also feature Sacramento comedy legend Ellis Rodriguez, and Red Bluff’s own Aaron Prinz. Palmatier holds a Bache- lor of Music degree, magna cum laude, in Applied Music from the Crane School of Music in Pots- dam, NY. He also has earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Music from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., and a Mas- ter of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College. A member of the Army War College Association, he belongs to the Adjutant General Corps Regimental Association. Maj. Bruce Pulver, Deputy Commander Pulver joined The U.S. Army Field Band as the Deputy Commander and Associate Conductor in April of 2008. He holds a Bachelor of Music Educa- tion degree from the Uni- versity of Southern Missis- sippi and a Master of Music Education degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Pulver began his military career in 1993, serving as a percussionist with the First Army Band at Fort Meade, Maryland and later the 98th Army Band at Fort Rucker, Pulver Alabama. Following these assignments, Major Pulver became the Executive Offi- cer of the Army Ground Forces Band at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to entering military service, he taught in the Mississippi public schools as a high school and middle school band and choral director. An accomplished sol- dier, Pulver’s numerous military awards and decora- tions include: the Meritori- ous Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Clus- ter, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Nation- al Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Glob- al War on Terror Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Over- seas Service Ribbon, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Air Assault Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. Capt. Leonel Pena, Offi- Pena cer in Charge, Soldiers' Chorus Peña assumed responsi- bilities as Associate Band- master of the United States Army Field Band and Director of the Soldiers’ Chorus in April of 2009. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Commander of the Staff & Faculty Com- pany at the U.S. Army School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. His earliest assign- ments were at Ft. McPher- son in Atlanta, Georgia, where he served as Execu- tive Officer & Associate Conductor of the Army Ground Forces Band, and later as Staff Bands Officer for U.S. Army Forces Com- mand (FORSCOM). Peña earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University and a master’s degree from Cen- tral Michigan University. Peña’s military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Airborne Para- chutist Badge.
