2A – Daily News – Thursday, May 5, 2011 Community people&events Youth bowlers to host carnival in Corning The Corning Youth Bowlers will host a youth carnival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday at North Side Park, 1414 Colusa St., in Corning. There will be more than 28 games where everyone wins. A dunk tank will dangle teachers, coaches from Little League, football, wrestling and basketball, and bowlers from the bowling center over the water. A concession stand with soft drinks, nachos, barbecued hot dogs and popcornwill be available. DJ Rodney Harrah of Hot Rod Entertainment of Corning will provide entertainment as well. All proceeds from the carnival will help pay for expenses for all the Youth Bowlers who will attend a Youth State Bowling Tournament in Pinole and Albany. It is the NorCal/USBC State Championships. Corning Youth Bowlers are made up of 100 boys and girls from Corning and surrounding communities, ages 4 to 21. The bowling season runs from September through April, culminating in the state championships. The bowlers hotel rooms, transportation, meals and bowling fees for the two-day event have been paid for in the past solely through fundraising efforts throughout the season. However, rising costs of transportation and lodging has required even more community support. For more information, call Beverly Martini at 824-3500. This year’s "Ele- gant Affair" is an event not to be missed on Saturday, May 7, 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, May 8, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Home Arts Build- ing, Tehama County Fairground. Admission is free for all ages. Gardeners have developed flower shows as a place to share their knowledge and exhibit their skills at growing outstanding horti- culture specimens and designing artistic floral designs for others to enjoy. What a wonderful family ori- ented event to delight your senses and celebrate the usefulness and beauty of flowers and plants. "Garden Gems" Horticulture Division offers 11 Sections and 77 different Classes and "Black Tie Required" in Flower Design, offers five Sections with fifteen Classes which makes it easy to find some- thing of interest for everyone. "An Elegant Affair" Flower Show also offers a huge Plant Sale, and Floral Design and Plant Propa- gation Demonstrations that will be held throughout each day. A special division is available for youth ages seven through eigh- teen, with sections offered in – Cut Specimen - Container Plants (not more than 14" in diameter), and Flower Design with designer’s choice of plant material.
