Anchored In page 2 T he spring semester has been successful and motivating for Beta Kappa. We have focused on improving our programming, chapter leadership skills, and personal accountability. Combined, these three objectives have created a stronger sisterhood and connection to Delta Gamma. Academic Initiatives a Priority The Chapter has been working diligently to increase our G.P.A. and improve our academic programming. We have incorporated a new study hour program and a major-based mentor initiative to best position Beta Kappa for academic success this semester. Community Outreach Beta Kappa members are dedicated to service in the community and on campus. Every Monday a group of women visit a local nursing home, Windsor Senior Living, and facilitate activities such as bingo, trivia, and cupcake decorating for residents. Members also volunteer with MOPS, Habitat for Humanity, Jubilee Café, Grow, and many other initiatives. Service for Sight We continue to enjoy our long-standing partnership with Audio Reader and a renewed program with the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired in Kansas City. Thanks to members of the Lawrence alumnae chapter, we have also been invited to assist with a new program that provides free eye exams for young children in local schools. Each of these unique experiences helps us better understand the importance of Service for Sight and the impact we can have by supporting those with visual impairments. DG Wins Rock Chalk Revue Delta Gamma paired with Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity to participate in Rock Chalk Revue this March. The hard work and dedication of the directors, cast, and crew certainly paid off. Our show, Gone with the Weeds, was awarded best performance, audience choice, best story, best production number, best choreography, best costumes, best set, best chorus, and overall best in show. Founders' Day Brings Sisters Together The night before Founders' Day, a sisterhood event focusing on women's empowerment and ending with a yoga class was held at the Student Union. The event was the perfect kickoff to an amazing weekend. The Lawrence alumnae chapter hosted a wonderful Founders' Day brunch consisting of rituals, award recognition, fundraising for the Delta Gamma Foundation, and the senior installation ceremony. We are so grateful for the dedicated alumnae who made the event possible. Recruitment Preparation Begins Fall 2014 formal recruitment is just around the corner.
