Roundup FrOm Page 1 TheAssociatedPress arLingtOn, texas Jesse Chavez allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings, Eric Sogard matched his season total with three RBIs on Wednesday night and the Oakland Athletics com - pleted a three-game sweep with a 12-1 rout of the sloppy Texas Rangers. Yoenis Cespedes had two doubles, scored twice and drove in two runs for the A's, who scored 10 runs com - bined in the third and fourth innings to answer a three- game sweep by the Rangers in Oakland last week. The Rangers matched a season high with four er - rors, including one of two by shortstop Elvis Andrus on what could have been an inning-ending double play in Oakland's seven-run third. Chavez (2-0) walked one and struck out eight, al - lowing only Prince Field- er's soft line-drive single to right-center field in the first inning. Robbie Ross (1-2) gave up 11 hits and 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings, the shortest out - ing of the left-hander's first season as a starter. Just six runs were earned because of Andrus' second error in Texas' fourth straight loss. Alberto Callaspo and Derek Norris had three hits each among a season-high 17 for Oakland. Two of Nor - ris' hits were infield singles on choppers to Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre and played big roles in Oakland building a 10-0 lead. The burly catcher hustled to beat Beltre's throw for the fifth straight Oakland hit in the third. An inning later, Craig Gentry scored as Beltre's throw skipped past Fielder for an error, and right fielder Alex Rios was charged with an error trying to get Cespedes at home when his throw went to the backstop. Andrus, who went 0 for 2 and has one hit in his past 28 at-bats, had his other er - ror in the first inning when his throw went several feet over Fielder's head on a rou- tine grounder by Josh Don- aldson. Cespedes had a two-run double for a 3-0 Oakland lead in the third before the first of Norris' infield hits. Callaspo followed with an easy grounder to Andrus, but the ball went between his legs into center field. basebaLL Chavez, A's finish Texas sweep by antonio gonzalez The Associated Press OakLand Relaxed, re- lieved and ready to resume their championship chase, the Los Angeles Clippers tried to get back some sense of normalcy Wednesday af - ter a week unlike any other in NBA history. At least as normal as things can get right now. Clippers coach Doc Riv - ers said the chaos caused by owner Donald Sterling's racist remarks is still far from over. And while NBA Commissioner Adam Sil - ver has banned Sterling from the league for life and asked owners to force a sale of the franchise, Rivers said plenty of uncertainty will remain until a change is complete. "We're not through this. We're still in it," Rivers said on a conference call with re - porters, again shielding his players from the spotlight of the media that surely would've swarmed the team's practice facility. Rivers has always told players to avoid outside clutter — "keep your boxes empty," he often says — no matter the issue. Now Riv - ers wants his team to wel- come the challenge of over- coming all the noise. The Clippers can start by taking another step for- ward on the court when they try to eliminate the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 tonight in Oakland. Los Angeles leads the first- round series 3-2 and is on the brink of just its third playoff-series victory since Sterling bought the fran - chise in 1981. "Like I told my guys, this is going to be with us," Riv- ers said. "Let's just keep winning and let's deal with it. But it's not going any- where, and you just got to embrace that, that this is part of this year's playoffs for us." While questions still re - main — notably how Ster- ling will respond to the league's ruling — Rivers said not much has changed with the team's day-to-day operations. He is still over - seeing the basketball side and, as far as he knows, team President Andy Ro- eser is running the business operations. "The league is work- ing through the rest," said Rivers, who added that he would not be among the long list of suitors lining up to buy the team. Sterling was fined $2.5 million Tuesday — the max - imum allowable under the NBA constitution — after audio recordings surfaced on TMZ and Deadspin over the weekend of him telling a female companion not to bring black people to games or post pictures with them online. Silver also urged the NBA's board of governors to compel Sterling to sell the Clippers, and if three- fourths of the other 29 own - ers agree, the league's lon- gest-tenured owner almost certainly will be forced to give up the team. Players said the ruling provided some relief, and it showed in the Clippers' 113- 103 win over the Warriors on Tuesday night when they got back to the free and spirited style that car- ried them to 57 wins and a second straight Pacific Divi- sion title. Warriors coach Mark Jackson said his players have been just as drained the past five days by the Sterling scandal. But he downplayed the impact the ruling had on either team. "We don't want an ex - cuse, but it obviously, I don't like the way we competed. And that wasn't us for what- ever reason," Jackson said. Focus will be the key for both teams again. TheWarriorshavewon16 of their past 19 home games against the Clippers, includ - ing a 118-97 whipping Sun- day after the Sterling saga began. But star Stephen Curry, who scored 17 points in the first quarter alone in that game, is coming off one of his most perplexing play - off performances. Curry had a career-high eight turnovers and at- tempted just 10 shots — making five of them — in Game 5 in Los Angeles. He finished with 17 points and four assists, but he was glad to be back in Oakland on Wednesday and away from all the distractions. "I think we'll be able to play free enough to just go out and have fun and make plays and understand if we play the way we're supposed to, we'll be all right," Curry said.
