John D. Colbert, 54, of Bermuda Run, NC passed away
unexpectedly, but peacefully on March 18, 2014 while
attending the BrandSource convention in Orlando . He was
born September 4, 1959 in Ft. Wayne, IN to the late Robert
Colbert and surviving Margaret Colbert, of Cordova, TN. John is
survived by his loving wife, Deborah Colbert, of Bermuda Run,
NC, his daughter, Amy Mitchell (Camron) of Clemmons, NC and
grandson, Andrew. He is also survived by a brother, Robert
Colbert (Lucia), of Cordova, TN, a sister, Margaret Brown (Earl), of
St. Augustine, FL, and a niece, Emily Brown, of St. Augustine, FL.
John obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of
Tennessee which ignited a life-long love of the university and UT
football. He went on to round out his education at the Georgia
Institute of Technology. John excelled throughout his 30 year
career in the appliance industry; at the time of his passing, John
was fulfilling his professional dream as President of Crosley
Corporation. He also spent some time as Vice President of Sales
and Marketing-US Market for WC Wood Company, Director of
Buying Group and Private Label Sales, Maytag Corporation and
Director of Private Label and Canadian Sales-Jenn-Air/Magic
Chef, Maytag Corporation.
The family gathered on Sunday, March 30 to receive friends
and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
memorials are made to the John D. Colbert Memorial Scholarship
c/o the University of Tennessee Foundation—Tennessee Fund,
1551 Lake Loudoun Blvd., Knoxville, TN 27996. Please note "In
memory of John D. Colbert" on the memo line.
John will surely be missed by all of us in the Industry.
