www.texaspikes.com Pi Kappa alpha 5 Jeff Blume '09 graduated from U.T. with a B.S. in biology in May 2013 and is now a first-year medical student at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center Medical School in Lubbock. He is focusing on a possible career in surgery at this time. Jeff served on Round Up Committee at Pike. He grew up in Austin. He can be reached at j.blume12@yahoo.com. matthew dunn '09 graduated from Texas with a B.B.A. in business honors and finance in May 2013. He is now an analyst with Wells Fargo Securities' Energy & Power Investment Banking Group in Houston. Matthew served as the social chairman and academic chairman of Pike, and was a member of the Texas Cowboys where he served as the treasurer, selection chairman and on the Cannon Crew. Matthew is the son of steve dunn '73, who serves on our Alumni Advisory Board. He is a senior analyst with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s Hedge Fund & Mutual Fund Global Equity Research Group specializing in derivatives within the investment bank in Dallas. Maxwell served as pledge educator and rush chairman during his tenure at Pi Kappa Alpha. He is a Dallas native. Today Houston is a second-year law student at the U.T. Law School and plans to practice estate planning, real estate and commercial transactions. At Pike, Houston served on Honors Council and was an IFC representative. He is originally from San Antonio and can be reached at houston.berger@utlaw.utexas.edu. keepinG up with Recent GRaduates B eta Mu is grateful to Pike alumni in Houston and Dallas for hosting career advisory sessions during the holiday break in January 2014. dr. marc Boom '85, CEO of Houston's Methodist Hospital System, invited Pikes studying medicine and kinesiology to tour Houston Methodist's main Medical Center complex. After a working lunch with Brother Boom, the Pikes met with several hospital department heads and observed a surgical procedure in progress. Also in January, six Pike attorneys led a session in Dallas on preparing for law school and what to expect from a career in the law. The alumni practitioners represented a cross section of large firm, small firm, judicial/ appellate and federal prosecutorial perspectives. A hearty thanks to van Beckwith '84 for hosting the lunch roundtable at his firm's offices, as well as participating alumni lynn Collins '85, Paul heath '81, Jim Jacks '69, Jim Kingman, Rhodes College '05 and John rowlett '83. On March 25 sam dawson '80, P.E., led a career advisory session on the engineering field for Pike undergraduates in Austin. Brother Dawson is president and CEO of Pape-Dawson Engineers, a San Antonio-based civil engineering and land-planning firm with numerous Texas offices and almost 400 employees. Dawson chairs the Advisory Board of U.T.'s Cockrell School of Engineering and spoke to Pike engineering students about planning for careers in not only civil engineering, but also petroleum/geosystems, chemical, electrical and aerospace engineering. Sam Dawson '80, P.E., addresses Pike engineering students on March 25 in Austin. Sam spoke about corporate leadership and management techniques, as well as planning for careers in engineering. Dr. Marc Boom' 85 (far right) hosted Pikes for a discussion on careers in medicine and a tour of Houston Methodist Hospital on January 6, 2014.
