4 www.texaspikes.com the Beta mu review d avid n. reed '68 entered Chapter Eternal after suffering a fatal heart attack in Dallas on December 31, 2013. He was born in Fort Worth and after graduating from U.T. Austin in 1971 earned his juris doctor with honors from Southern Methodist University's School of Law in 1974. David practiced law for several years with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Durant, Mankoff law firm before forming Meadows, Collier, Reed, Cousins & Crouch in 1987. David was a resident of University Park and counseled many clients in the ensuing 30 years. David is survived by his wife, Anne (Barclay), of Dallas, and his daughter, Sally Anne, and her husband, Marc Tabolsky. In addition to the love of his family and the law, David enjoyed golf and travel, and spending time at the family's historic Palo Pinto County property. John Barclay '73, a brother-in-law to David, told The Beta Mu Review, "David was a good man with a very warm, generous heart; loyal to his family and friends and proud of his Fort Worth and West Texas roots, The University of Texas and Pi Kappa Alpha. David was the type of standup guy that any brother would want to introduce to his sister, which is exactly what I did. I'm happy to report that my matchmaking, along with fellow matchmaker and Beta Mu brother Bruce Bennett '73, resulted in a long, happy marriage for Anne and David." "We have lost one of the finest people that I have had the pleasure of knowing. David was a true gem whom we shall miss dearly. We will set a place for him at our next Texas-OU Weekend Pike dinner in Dallas," added hoppy strickland '71. David remained very close to a number of Beta Mu Pikes over the years, including John Barclay '73, dr. Pat hodges '68, steve ray '69, randy stout '70 and meb todd '69, all of whom served as pallbearers at the funeral in Dallas on January 3, 2014. Bruce Bennett spoke at the Austin burial service at Memorial Park Cemetery on January 4, where mourners included Charlie Beckham '73, Bill gump '73, frank holcomb '68, Jay messer '69 and Phil roper '71. The Reed family has requested memorials to David's memory be sent to SMU's Dedman School of Law.
