W e are proud to announce Xi was named KU Panhellenic Chapter of the Year at the recently held KU Greek Awards! The award is given to the Panhellenic chapter with the highest score from the judges. Chapters are judged in the following areas: chapter management, academic performance, community awareness, leadership and campus involvement, risk management, and member development and programming. Chapters must prepare a three page application for each section explaining how they met the requirements for each section. Then each chapter must make a presentation before the judges being prepared to answer any questions the judges may have. It is a year-long process to meet the requirements KU has for the Greek community. It is a very big honor to be selected as Chapter of the Year. We couldn't be more excited! The chapter was also awarded Chapter Excellence in: • Chapter Management • Member Development and Programming • Risk Management • Leadership and Campus Involvement The chapter was awarded Distinction in: • Academic Performance • Community Awareness Also, a big congratulations to Xi freshman Abby Fields '13 for being awarded Outstanding New Member. I t is official! The construction project on the chapter house will begin in May, after seven years of prepara- tion and planning. The building permit has been issued, the financing is in place, and the contract with the construc- tion company has been signed. On May 20, we will begin renovating the north side of the first floor, the second floor north bathroom, and construct the third floor addition on the north side of the house. We can't possibly describe everything that has been done to get to this point, but we've spent countless hours researching options, meeting with alumnae to hear their ideas, updating the alumnae database, doing a feasibility study for a capital campaign, embarking on a capital campaign, working on plans, re-working plans when requirements changed, meeting with contractors and sub-contractors, meeting with City of Lawrence staff, updating electrical, adding the front portico, clearing trees to be able to get heavy equipment in, meeting with bank staff, gathering and preparing dozens and dozens of documents that each entity required, getting feedback from chapter members every step of the way, and so much more. We can tell you who has worked tirelessly to make this happen. The members of the construction committee are Sharon McCarthy Uhlig '73, Diane McCarthy Knowles '71, Cheri Stelmach Beaver '74, Melissa Yeager '96, Jessica Cornwell '03, Melissa Gard '98, Pat Scherrer Stelmach '42, Kristen Schutte Helling '93, Ariel Puccetti '09, Carissa Komar Brown '01, and Caren Brandenburg, Zeta Deta, Tennessee-Martin'82. This process has been a labor of Dove Love for sure! So hopefully you are saying "WOW! How exciting, and what can I do?"
