We are extremely grateful to the following 45 brothers who contributed $7,853 to our annual campaign since January 1, 2014. The support you give makes a difference to Mu DKE and its future. We hope more alumni will join their brothers and contribute to our ongoing annual campaign. staying ConnECtED with aLuMnus abroaD Q&A with Scott Woods '93 Tell us about yourself. Well, the basics: I am a young 45-year-old, married with two boys (ages 10 and 8) who keep me on my toes. I live in Hamburg, Germany. I am originally from the Jersey Shore but moved to Europe with my parents when I was young. After college I decided to move back to Germany where I have lived ever since. How has being a Mu Chapter member impacted your life? Mostly it has been the beginning of some really special lifelong friendships that have survived the large geographical separation. I also think the level of camaraderie is unparalleled. I tend to look forward and not to dwell on the past, so I have never felt a strong alumni association to the school but have always felt a strong bond to the brotherhood. How have you stayed involved with DKE? My involvement has actually been quite limited, especially due to the fact that I live so far away. But when I am in the U.S., I try to meet up with brothers as much as I can. A special highlight for me was my 20-year reunion last year, which was the first time I had been back on campus since graduation, and got to live in the Pierce. Sitting on the front steps felt like not a day had passed. What is your favorite DKE memory? There are probably a few that I wouldn't like to see printed on paper. What I distinctly remember is the feeling after walking down from classes through the snow and walking into the house with a blazing fire. Oh, and grilled cheese lunches from Jo Fenner! What have you been doing professionally since graduation? After graduation I returned to Germany where I started working for media companies. When the Internet came up, I was immediately drawn to this new technology that let me stay connected with my friends and family in the U.S. So I made a profession out of my passion, first building up digital business units for traditional media companies, and later transitioning to U.S.-based tech companies. As an example, I ran Business Development for Google or managed the social music site last.fm (a CBS company). Currently I am country director for Facebook in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. What are you passionate about outside your work? I have a huge passion for technical innovation, which is really dangerous since that is such a big part of my job as well. I love all kinds of new gadgets that come out and all types of new digital business models. Spending time with my boys is obviously the most gratifying thing there is. Gentleman, Scholar, or Jolly Good Fellow? Tough one. A bit of all I would think, but if you nail me down: Jolly Good Fellow! A brother dead and brothers mourning / Fill the heart with grief today, And the earnest grasp fraternal; / Speaks, "a dear one passed away." Yes, no longer we shall greet thee / In the halls of DKE, Yet thy name in sweet remembrance / Graven on our hearts will be. We have parted, Brother, parted, / As we trust, to meet again, In a full unbroken circle, / Free from sorrow, grief and pain. Dauchy Migel '35, December 11, 2012 Fred I.
