n ine foursomes of Alabama Beta alumni and undergraduates competed in the first- ever Alabama Beta alumni golf tournament on Saturday, March 15. The event, planned and organized by Joey Judge '14, was held at the Robert Trent Jones Oxmoor Valley course in Birmingham. The tournament began with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and concluded with a buffet lunch and awards ceremony. A number of non- golfing alumni joined the group for lunch and award festivities. All participants received a commemorative t-shirt and raffle tickets for a chance to win one of several prizes. Prizes were awarded to the top three foursomes, as well as closest to the pin on #16, and longest drive on #7. paul robertson '67 and Drew Ashcraft '15 won these awards, respectively. The winning foursome consisted of Drew Ashcraft, gage Clifton '15, Matt Kress '16, and Blake McKraken '17. Members of the second-place team were Justin Mayfield '04, Drew Cook '05, Adam Madinger '05, and Carter McLain '15. The third-place foursome consisted of sig symms '69, steve Mace '71, Brice Morpeth '17, and John Wilson '17. In the prize drawing, richard ryan '91 of Marietta, Georgia, won a very nice crimson and white Titleist golf bag and Sig Symms was a double-winner, taking home a gift certificate and a SigEp cooler. neal West '90 of Huntsville was also a winner in the prize drawing. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, Jimmy Hubbard, Tennessee Zeta '91, chapter counselor, spoke to the group, along with Chapter President Jeffrey Collins '15 and sam sparks '71, vice president of the Alabama Beta Alumni and Volunteer Corporation. Alumni participating in the tournament traveled from Atlanta, Marietta and Peachtree City, Georgia, and Montgomery, Huntsville, and Birmingham, Alabama, as well as other locations in the southeast. Some 30 undergraduates traveled to the tournament from Tuscaloosa on a chartered bus—some to participate, others to help with registration, photography, awards, and other support functions. Other alumni in attendance were Jonathan Worrell '70, robert podolski '88, Hammond Cobb '72, steve Mace '71, Cal Lagroue '06, Jim parker '69, Bob Holman '69, and Don Little '77. Several alumni made generous donations to support the continuing operations of the AVC while others volunteered their time and energy to support the AVC's efforts. A special thank- you goes to Wynn Echols '70 for the very generous contribution he made to the Alabama Beta Scholarship Fund. Due to the success of the event, preliminary planning is already underway for a second tournament to be held in the spring of 2015. We hope to see you there. These gold lapel pins signify alumni status in the fraternity. On Sunday, January 26, the first pins were presented to brothers Tyler McClure '13 and Joseph park '13, who both graduated in the fall. Members of the AVC presented the pins at the Chapter's mentor workshop day on campus in Tuscaloosa. It is anticipated that 20 members will receive pins upon graduation in May. All alumni are encouraged to wear these lapel pins as a symbol of their continued membership and support of the SigEp brotherhood.
