They are open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. There were nine Sun Country Quilters who met the chal- lenge. A reception will be held to announce the winning quilts from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Refresh- ments will be served. The quilters were given the challenge to make a quilt. They received a packet of fabric with which to start. The rules they had to follow were: Come up with a plan for a quilt that depicted the theme of the Sun Country Quilt Show “Quilting Around the World,” enough of the material had to be used to be recognizable in the quilt, and size parameters had to be established. The categories that were judged were: Most creative use of the fabric, best depicts quilt show theme and Viewer’s Choice. They were judged at the March meeting and will be dis- played at the Sun Country Quilt Show in May. The quilt show will be Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15. The hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat- urday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The show will also include venders, a boutique, demon- strations, refreshments and door prizes. Red Bluff Garden Club presents its 50th Annual Flower Show & Plant Sale on May 7 & 8 at the Fairgrounds Home Arts Building. The show is highlighted with plants from local gardens— both cut specimens and container plants. We have 11 Sections, each with 3 to 15 classes. Award-win- ning floral designers as well as beginners will show off their talents in 14 design classes. Added to the Show this year are mini-workshops on floral design and plant propaga- tion. Red Bluff Garden Club’s Flower Shows are nationally accredited and the Club has received several National Awards. Our award-win- ning show sets are designed by Vicki Civello. This year Vicki is focusing on elegant little "vignettes" featuring formal gowns and accessories com- plimented with flowers and plants. Come see the glitter and glamour Vicki has dreamed up for this year! Standard Flower Shows require three Divisions—Horticulture, Design, and Special Exhibits. Each Division is divided into Sections, and each Section has several Class- es. All entries must contain fresh and/or dry plant material. All horti- culture entries must be "home- grown". Horticulture Division titled Gar- den Gems has 11 Sections which specifically state what is to be exhibited, i.e. Garden Royalty Roses—Hybrid Tea, single disbud- ded bloom, Garden Sultans—Rhi- zome (Iris)—Bearded, Garden Aristocrats Container-grown Plant—maximum pot size 14" diameter—Asparagus "Fern" Orna- mental. The Design Division is titled Black Tie Required has 5 Sections stating the design type and award qualifications. Each Design Class suggests a title, i.e. Anniversary Waltz & Tuxedo Junction. Flowers for designs may be purchased. The Special Exhibits Division Endless Splendor will include three exhibits in the Educational Section: #1 Moonlight Gardening featuring white & silver plants, #2 Golden Glow featuring yellow & gold plants and #3 Days of Wine & Roses—theme for our Fall Design Luncheon. Special Exhibits also includes the Youth Section titled Unfinished Symphony. Youth Exhibitors 7 to 17 from school classes and youth groups are invited to participate. Youth may enter Horticulture—Cut Specimens- The Grand March, Container-grown Plants-The Minuet, and Design-The Waltz. For a special Mother’s Day Weekend treat, visit the Fair- grounds for our Elegant Affair Flower Show. Admission is Free. Come early for the Plant Sale. Other subjects will also be taught to the recruits, including how to march in a parade, learn how to care for and wear the Young Marine uniform, make a bed properly, map and compass, first aide, study from a Young Marine guide book, physical fit- ness, and drug demand reduction strategies.
