The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's update on the status of gray wolves in the West, which it released last week, amounted to an implicit plug for its proposal to li\ fed- eral protections for the creature across the lower 48 states. Wolf restoration has been an "amazing success," the ser- vice said, and "by every bio- logical measure the [Northern Rocky Mountains] wolf is re- covered and remains secure under state management." The evidence: The number of breeding pairs and individ - ual wolves remains comfort- ably above the agency's mini- mum targets. In fact, the service does have reason to crow, given what appears to be a reason - ably stable wolf population in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming — with a smattering in east- ern Washington and Oregon as well. Critics of delisting maintain that a sustainable wolf popula - tion should be larger than the current 1,691, and don't trust the states to uphold their part of the recovery bargain. We have more faith in state wildlife officials — and mean - while trust Fish & Wildlife to intervene, as it promises, "if relisting is ever warranted." This editorial originally ap - peared in the Denver Post. Editorial The success of the gray wolf means it lives Cartoonist's take The Tea Party Patri- ots were fortunate to host author Trevor Loudon, from New Zealand, whose books, "Barack Obama and The Ene - mies Within," and "The Enemies Within: Com- munists, Socialists, and Progressives in The U.S. Con- gress," are a disturbing exposé on the left's advance into politi- cal power. They can be most directly purchased (hardcover only) at PacificFreedomFoundation.org, "Inspiring people to protect freedom & sovereignty for our children." A video of his speech to the South Pinellas 9.12 Patri - ots, Pinellas Park, Fl., is posted at the site and at "DonPolson. blogspot.com" ("The Enemies Within"). It's an hour long, rivet - ing and worth every minute. He's one of the leading au- thorities, with voluminous re- search, footnotes and citations, on the radical left and its influ- ence on Barack Obama (Loud- en's first book in 2011 is 600 pages). He "began exposing (in 1997) the history about those who advised, mentored and op - erated behind the throne of the 44th President," Barack Obama; they "fall into a wide category of radicals, Marxists, communists, Islamists and Americans." Their goal: overthrow capitalism and our American Republic resulting in our loss of freedom. Mr. Louden meticulously doc - uments similar connections, alli- ances and cooperation by Demo- crat members of Congress with the radical left (his second book is 900 pages, 2013-2015 edition). He "profiles fourteen Senators and more than fifty Representa - tives and their ties to Commu- nist Party USA (CPUSA), Dem- ocratic Socialists of America (DSA), Workers World Party, the Institute for Policy Studies, Council for a Livable World and other radical anti-American or - ganizations." Remember, readers, that in early 2011, Stanley Kurtz's "Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism" hit the bookshelves and provided an eye-opening, also meticu - lously researched, ac- count of the efforts of American socialists to rebrand themselves (as "not" socialists) while taking over the Demo - cratic Party. Kurtz, a journalist, social anthro- pologist and Harvard PhD, recounted how this was openly discussed and planned at meetings and seminars in the 1980s, gatherings that a then- young community organizer, Barack Obama, attended. Any open-eyed analysis of what the Obama-led, progressive-driven Democrats did, with full con - trol of government for 2 years, must acknowledge their leftist agenda. Another element of the radical leftist power grab, as Mr. Louden describes it, has been the take - over of the AFL-CIO and SEIU labor unions and the pro-illegal immigrant movement by CPUSA and DSA operatives. The unions (and the Democratic Party) be - gan purging moderate union leaders and centrist Democrats (like Joe Lieberman and the Rea- gan/Dixie-crats). There is no centrist, moderate immigrant movement — they're all pro-am- nesty, open-borders groups led by Hispanic radicals. Funny thing: If America had a news media willing and ea - ger to dig into everyone's back- grounds (every detail of Sarah Palin's or Mitt Romney's life ex- posed; Barack Obama's — move along, nothing to see here), Americans would have been jus- tifiably outraged. If we had a Re- publican Party, populated from top leadership to state party or- ganizations with fearless, vision- ary adherents of American, Tea Party, and constitutional prin- ciples—vociferously advocating for said principles and against the anti-Americanism of the rad- ical left—Americans would have a real choice. Which brings us to Mr. Loud- en's bottom line: For literally decades, the left, the Commu- nist Party USA, Democratic So- cialists of America (the social- ist New Party in Chicago en- dorsed Obama's first campaign), labored, propagandized and or- ganized to produce a Barack Obama presidency and a con- gressional Democrat majority. They triumphantly expected at least 4 years of unopposed rule; they expected America's economy to recover just as it al - ways had; they cared not a whit if their legislation and policies undermined job-creation. There- fore, they passed a nearly tril- lion-dollar "stimulus" (slush fund for Democratic state gov- ernments and unions), ignored the deleterious effects of deficit spending to economic recovery, ballooned government and reg - ulatory overreach—and passed the "holy grail" of quasi-national- ized health care, i.e. Obamacare. Moreover, Dodd-Frank burdened America's financial system and businesses. How's that all working? We have the worst recovery since the Great Depression and great dissatisfaction over Obamacare reforms to, and dislocations of, America's health care system. Obama's debt will surpass previ - ous Presidents' combined. Trevor Louden insists that there is no hope for a third party to do anything but assure Demo - crats of total control, with which they will give 8 million illegal im- migrants the vote as soon as leg- islatively possible. That will usher in genera- tions, in perpetuity, of a leftist, socialist grip on all branches of government. Thinking of Vene- zuela or China is not a conspir- acy-driven, catastrophic fan- tasy. Just grind America's mili- tary into a shadow of its former strength while growing the sub- sidized, dependency class into a voting majority, and watch Chi- na's military might and political influence advance to our shores. Louden: The Tea Party move- ment is the only thing that saved America from nearly perpetual leftist rule in 2010. A Tea Party, constitutional, conservative-led Republican Party winning in 2014 and 2016 is the only thing that will be - gin to roll back the left's forward march. The good news — it's worse than we thought. Yeah. That's the good news. The bad news — you don't want to know. Because then there's worse news and ultimately, "holy moley, is that an asteroid the size of a mini-mall crushing my house" news. The same kind of news a doctor offers up after invit - ing you into his office, closing the door and advising you to sit down. Or your lawyer rec- ommending a friend who "spe- cializes in this sort of thing, but I warn you, he's not cheap." A mechanic walking slowly from your car, wiping his hands on a rag, sadly shaking his head. Or when a spouse's packed bags are stacked near the front door and a voice from the kitchen in - tones: "We need to talk." After delivering their com- munique describing how not only has global warming al- ready arrived, but it's un- packed, made friends with the dog, is sleeping on the couch and drinking daddy's bourbon that he thinks nobody knows is behind the Wheat Thins; the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change threw up its hands and ran screaming from the room. The unreported nature of these actions can be chalked up to being considered normal ac - tivity at the UN. Remember about 10 years ago, when the IPCC told the world that something had to be done soon or all hell was go - ing to break loose? Well, guess what? Nothing was done and all hell has broken loose. You can actually see chunks of it litter - ing the outskirts of Phoenix. With Lucifer himself haunting the halls of the Arizona State Capitol. The gist of the state- ment is instead of wast- ing time on political gridlock strangling all efforts to diminish global warming, we need to learn to live with it. Seriously. That's what they said. Their recommended strat - egy has evolved from halt- ing climate change to surviv- ing it. From mitigation to adap- tation. No more trying to keep gas out of the basement, now we concentrate on not light- ing any matches. Turns out, Al Gore was right. Next we'll dis- cover he really did invent the Internet. Time to wave bye-bye to cer- tain South Sea Islanders, un- less they begin building a big bunch of boats real soon. Eu- rope will need to increase flood insurance coverage exponen- tially. Sales of air conditioners in the US are destined to sky- rocket like condom sales in a bus station brothel, and Austra- lia might just want to pack up and move. Now. It's not just increased tem- peratures and rising sea levels and more severe weather and ocean acidification and species extinctions and multi-ecosys - tem collapse and slathering on sunblock 8000 and polar bears wandering Winnipeg; they're also predicting violent conflicts over dwindling food supplies and fresh water. Like the beer cooler at a 7-11 on Bourbon Street the Satur - day before Mardi Gras. So for all you survivalists who have always imagined liv- ing like a post-civilization Mad Max fighting feral dogs for scraps while fending off leather- clad, Mohawk-sporting punks, your dreams may have finally come true.
